Fair enough. I'm sorry.

I'm a police chaplain, and I ride with these guys. True blue American, professional, officers of great integrity. One thing they pride themselves on is that they are trained to use their discretion. That has been taken away from them. And over time, I imagine arresting enough moms and dads with children at home, or young A students with bright future, and knowing that in the act of arresting them they will be deported... I imagine it will take a toll on them. Like I've said, I don't think our local LEO's signed up to be agents of ICE, they just want to protect and serve and build a good community. Padre |

I couldn't be the one to have to do it to the productive ones. And I don't know what ICE is. Doing nothing isnt' going to help at all. Maybe just deport anyone who breaks the law?
Is there a difference between illegal and undocumented? |

But... when they detain you (again, people who may have lived here, work, have families, go to church and school, just regular folks pulled over on a traffic offense) they send you to ICE for processing. When you are sent to the immigration facility in Atlanta (once 400 beds, now 4000), you are stripped and put in prison clothes with no underwear. You are given ham sandwiches and visitation is extremely limited. Even if you find a charity to help you legally in immigration court, the wait is 7 months or more (all in an overcrowded detention with no underwear). Then you're sent to an even larger facility in South Georgia (8+ hours from your family) while you await your final deportation. A local advocacy group seriously has a "Panties Drive" to send to women in detention. The government won't issue them. Padre |

So they can't request that they be deported right way?
And I meant the process of legalizing from the other side. Didn't know it takes that long to deport. Should make it quicker I think. |

An undocumented immigrant is someone who may not have legal status but may (or may not) be delared in the country illegally by an immigration court. So, there are far more undocumented than "illegal", and while most of those undocumented probably could be declared illegal, they enjoy the same rights we do, presumtion of innocence and protection from unreasonable search and seizure.
