i am 50's, but i know kids look at us when driveing and say"wow, nice car! what a waste of a car! on that old guy driving it! i know because when i was a teenager my friends and i would say the same things. now i can smile back and know that gererally its the older people that can afford the toys! my 14 yr old son confessed that he REALLY wants to get one when he gets older. i said by then they will be going on 8 yrs old and should be affordable to him. when i got out of college, i did not buy new 11k cars (think Rabbit GTI) i bought a 6yr old '77 TRANS AM 400-4spd. my friends thought i was nuts until they had a ride in it. i digress...good thread

Hi folks. I saw this thread and figured I'd stop in and introduce myself.

I'm Dennis and I'm 56. Picked up my new Camaro on Valentines day this year and I have to say I love this car.

Just for reference here's a pic I found of my last Camaro.

Not sure who that skinny guy in the picture is. He does look vaugely familiar but I haven't seen that face in the mirror in a really long time. I do remember that guy drank too much and drove too fast.

Sorry for the quality of that picture but thank god cameras have improved as much as cars over the years.

I sold that car in 1977 just before I got married and I've been driving a truck for most of the years in between.

I wanted a new Camaro from the time Chevrolet started taking orders for the gen5's but it just didn't fit into my retirement plan. I've finally admitted to myself that retirement is still a few years away, my boat and other cars are all paid for (part of that obsolete retirement plan) so I got one and I'm having a blast with it.

Yes, I'm an old man driving a fast car and going slow. I guess I have learned when and where is the right time and place to unleash the beast.

I'll leave you with my daily prayer. "Thank you lord for letting me live long enough to figure out I wanted to get old".

Actually that car started out as a 67 SS 396. It did have a 68 front end on it. It also had a transplanted L88 427 in it. Way too much power for a car with small drum brakes.

The new one is a much better behaved car. Almost as much power and brakes that will actually stop it. Given a little time it will at least match the power. Not sure yet just how far I'm gonna go with it. I started out wanting a car that would run a mid 12 second 1/4. Doesn't seem like that should be too hard to accomplish.

For those of you at or going to CamaroFest II.....I'm jealous. The pics so far are great!

For those of you on the East Coast that aren't going to CamaroFest II, consider coming to Atlanta for the fbodygathering.

For those of you that can't do either...drive your car and have fun!
