why is the sky blue??
The sun emits what is known as 'white light'. This is the combination of all the different wavelengths of light, including the entire visible spectrum. The particles of dust in the air scatter this light but different wavelengths scatter by different amounts. The shorter the wavelength, the less it scatters. So red, orange, yellow, and green travel through the atmosphere relatively undisturbed while blue and indigo get spread out into the sky above us. Violet gets scattered so much that its lost completely. When the sun is low on the horizon the light has much more air to pass through. This is enough for the longer wavelengths (red, orange, yellow) to disperse within the atmosphere while the shorter ones (green, blue, indigo) are lost completely like violet does during mid day.

Satisfactory?

I promise you I did not. I cannot prove my claim, but that was completely on my own. My knowledge base on scientific matters is quite broad. It started ~15 years ago with Bill Nye
