Not only do they have to think about performance, they also have to think about reliability, quality, and cost effectiveness.

Thats a pretty big jump. 30,000 and change for a GT with a 5.0 and then to 47,000 and change for a GT500?

That's alot if someone wants a bit more power.

Exactly. Just like when the new Camaros came out both the V6 and V8 models had better performance than the comperable model Mustangs and Challengers. It's like the cycle of life.

I prefer Mustangs. But had Chevy not raised the bar, we might not be getting the new 5.0 engine in the 2011+ Mustangs.

I paid $37,000 for my camaro with a lot less features than my GT500 thus a $10,000 price reduction. The mustang GT fully optioned like the GT500 will be pushing $37,000 also. None of this really matters though, because ford sells the GT for volume and value. 412HP in a great package for a midprice of $35,000 gets them there without stepping on the toes of it's flag ship mustang the GT500. Plus ford is thinking of the future. In a few years you'll be lucky to get a v-8 at all let alone a big v-8 unless it in alow volume expensive car. This race for hp in high volume cars will be stopping when these gas prices start going out of control again.
very true, we keep comparing bace price to base price
when no car at the lot is sold at bace price. now we have two comparable
models

Then you would just have a Modded 5.0 like the steaming masses, be at the mercy of the shop Frankensteining your ride, and be another person that thought he would save money in the long-run by growing his own........ LMAO. Often, you get what you pay for.....

That 5.0L is just a rumor... no reason to believe the Mustang isn't going to get any better next year.

mmm...no it's not. :(
The 2011 Mustang GT will feature a 5.0L V8 putting out 416-some hp and less torque.

I still have faith the Chevy will keep the Camaro very competitive.

My apologies...not sure where that extra 4 came from. A Camaro must have lost some extra ponies it didn't need....

I hate to say this, but when a bunch of Ford guys come on here and start talking about how great the new Coyote is and all we can come back with is "well, we can mod ours to be faster..." it doesn't sound too good. Modding is a very slippery slope as it usually comes down to who wants/can spend more on their car. The point that the LS3 may respond better to mods (which is complete conjecture at this point) is a reason some one might choose the Camaro over the Mustang, but not anything that makes the Mustang a "worse" or "slower" car. My point is that Ford has put together a very competent package if the information on 2011 GT is correct, and, stock for stock, which is the only really "fair" way to compare these two, I think it will be one hell of a driver's race.
