An article about weight saving technology? A you freaking kidding me? You think Ford is the only company doing this? I guarantee you both GM and Dodge did as much as they could to make their current pony cars as light as possible but still maintain all the features that must be included. The reason Dodge is heavier is because of the sheer size and room. I'd much rather ride in the back of the Challenger than the Camaro. If the new Mustang includes anything that would enable it to compete then it WILL weigh nearly as much as the Camaro, and any difference will be negligible at best.

Why is this so hard for you to grasp?

Grasp what that the Chally is a OBESE 4100+ POUNDS OR THE SS auto 3900+ pounds without a driver ???? your hoping the GT will be at those OBESE LEVELS , keep dreaming DODGE SCREWED UP FACE IT building a TANK like that and oh yeah the GT WILL BE LIGHTER THAN THE SS REST ASSURED... with the LEGENDARY 5.0 L motor returning , running at 400+ HP maybe not the 2010 but SURELY THE 2011 model year will have this AWESOME LIGHTWEIGHT MOTOR , Ford is finalizing the tooling as we speak

The Mustang will probably be lighter, but it still won't look as good

The back end looks like it was in a wreck. Hope it looks better in other pictures.

finally someone who agrees with me on this forum lol , looks are a personal thing IMO , though I still like the 68 FASTBACK MUSTANG best of all.... it just looks damn good , new cars don't use chrome like the classics muscle cars did... and the styling in the 60's was top notch and I don't think will ever be matched again

I'll wait all right... till I'm old and gray. Ford might have to move to a supercharged 5valve platform to do that just to get outperformed once again by chevy's old NA pushrod

I was just reading that the 5.0 is a DIRECT INJECTED MOTOR hence the BIG POWER out of fairly small displacement similar to the Camaros 6 cyl which pumps out over 300HP and is't only a 3.6 L , I just can't believe Chevy didn't go with this AWESOME NEW TECHNOLOGY for there V8s , the Stang GT looks better and better every day now ...

Yes and no, at least as it relates to this truly being a Mod motor. The upcoming 5.0L V8 is, according to Ford, so different that it is considered a new engine. How different that actually means it will be is up for debate. Ultimately the claims are that this engine addresses all of the Mod motors shortcomings and supposedly makes somewhere between 400 and 425hp and more than 360lb-ft of torque....numbers which are not out of line with what the latest gen DOHC DI V8's from other automakers have been generating. On less solid footing, some have vaguely insinuated that the 400hp rating was obtained on regular 87 octane juice possibly indicating that the engine is designed to be run on either regular or premium fuel with the 425hp ratings being produced with premium in the tank.
you naysayers will eat your words lol...

AND IT RUNS ON REGULAR PUMP GAS WOW

all DI engines run on regular, they dont require the octane to control preignition

I would suggest you advise them to go to a different set of scales. Even if we use the slightly heavier 2007 and newer GT, a manual transmission coupe wont hit 3500lb loaded even in fully loaded trim and I have seen countless Mustang's both on the scales and on the dyno. In fact, weird European standards used by companies like BMW aside, in my experience the Mustang is one of only two performance cars on the market today which typically actually weighs a little less than what the factory claims...the other is the Vette. Although the situation with the Vette could have changed since, with respect to the Chevy, it has been a few years since I have spent much time around those cars.

Although a direct injected version of the new 5.0L is coming, the 400+hp 5.0L slated for the 2011GT will use run of the mill PFI.

And, it sprays after (or right at the end) of the compression stroke, so it's not compressing any fuel -- which all but eliminates the potential for harmful knock or pinging.
