No offense, but it makes me cry that it takes Dodge 5.7 liters to equal what Ford can outdo with 5.0 in terms of straight engine performance numbers.
you mean the 5.4 that needs to be supercharged in order to beat the srt8. You see what happens to the mustang when you add the 5.4 it goes up to 3900 lbs. So imagine the 5.0. Less hp more weight=lose again.

Even when not supercharged the 5.4 can make 422 hp (Ford Falcon FPV GT), which at 200 pounds less would still beat the SRT-8.

The 5.0 is supposed to be the same engine as the 4.6, just bored out; it shouldn't weigh much more than the current model. Of course, there are different 5.0 engines, some bored out, some built from the ground up:

http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts...lete%20Engines

They can range from 340-450hp depending on what model is used.

You are correct the new BOSS 5.0 engine should be between 340hp to 450 hp with the weight being barely more maybe 20 pounds , the CHALLY SRT8 will be in the rear view mirror for shure

5.0L V8 could return in 2010 Mustang

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here is a quote from stuff .co guess that the BOSS IS BACK

The pressure is on now for Ford, which has had the ponycar market to itself for the better part of a decade. With the return of the Chevy Camaro and Dodge Challenger, Ford will surely be stepping up the Mustang's performance when it receives a makeover for 2010. In an interview with stuff.co.nz, Bill Osborne, President of Ford Australia, claims that Ford is considering using a 5.0L V8 for the new Falcon - the same engine being developed for the upcoming Mustang. While nothing has been officially confirmed by Ford, this is further evidence that the 5.0 will be making a return since it was dropped from the Mustang back in 1995.

A few more quotes :Yes and no, at least as it relates to this truly being a Mod motor. The upcoming 5.0L V8 is, according to Ford, so different that it is considered a new engine. How different that actually means it will be is up for debate. Ultimately the claims are that this engine addresses all of the Mod motors shortcomings and supposedly makes somewhere between 400 and 425hp and more than 360lb-ft of torque....numbers which are not out of line with what the latest gen DOHC DI V8's from other automakers have been generating. On less solid footing, some have vaguely insinuated that the 400hp rating was obtained on regular 87 octane juice possibly indicating that the engine is designed to be run on either regular or premium fuel with the 425hp ratings being produced with premium in the tank.

you will likely see 345 hp but the supercharged gt500 does 0-60 in 4.6 chally 4.7.(MIGHT BE A BIT BIAS ON THE #S) So if you drop the supercharger gain some weight you will see most likely 4.8 0-60 enough to touch my front mirrors then watch it quickly change to my taillights as I beat you top end as well

I hope ford does come out with the 5.0 or even the 6.2 they were developing but dropped not too long ago. I am a N/A guy so anything ford dodge or chevy does without a supercharger I LOVE

I got some times from Car and Driver, since they seem to be the most accurate in terms of a car's potential and I wanted to compare times gotten by the same publication:

GT500 - 0-60: 4.5 1/4 mile: 12.9 @ 112
SRT-8 - 0-60: 4.8 1/4 mile: 13.3 @ 103

I'm really anxious to see what Ford brings to the plate for the next GT or Boss or whatever they call it. I guess we'll know in a few weeks.

2010 Camaro? Or Challenger?

Anyways, I was thinking of the Camaro....and looking at these numbers:
GT500 - 0-60: 4.5 1/4 mile: 12.9 @ 112

What if the SS is able to pull these numbers (or VERY close)?
