Great car that comes up short on execution. In 68 they gave us the Hemi Darts and Cudas. Drag cars with VIN's that were street legal, and also NHRA legal. They should have put a 6 point cage in it to be legal. What they are telling you now is to race it on the street and kill yourself or someone else in the process.

I didn't mean to give the impression that they can be driven on the street. I just found it yesterday and thought it was interesting.

Sorry for posting old news.

How do you figure? The COPO is for a specific race class. Why is that silly? Also you really think they will make 3000 of them. I would be shocked if they can sell that many. I bet it's less than a thousand.

9.65@140 for a 4000+lb car....that's moving.

I'm confused about the whole concept that they made a car capable of 9s but the buyer can't even race it at a track because it doesn't have the proper safety gear necessary. So what good is the 9.65 when it'll never run being banned from the track and all... Just for d*** measuring I suppose?

You guys saying the ford and chevy need to catch up, answer back and what not are wrong IMO. This is old news and why chevy and ford are not that interested in it probably. The new day in age is going around a track with curvs, 1/4 mile is cool but just too easy, high hp and weight for the most part. Its too easy to go straight line with big power and move the car towards the finish line that quick.

You can pickup a decent 4th gen, used 5.3 with a good size turbo and upgrade the fuel for $10k and have your 9 second daily driver 1/4 mile car. You also have a warranty, the warranty is that you didnt have to spend another $75k for the vin to say 2018. To make a car that can turn and go fast will cost a lot more.

I figured the demon would have been the new viper type car at a budget that would compete with the ZL1 and 350r but they instead renamed the hellcat to demon and added a few things.

I've said this from the beginning about GM with the ZL1. One thing they did right was selling the damn car at MSRP from day one. I applaud them for that. Maybe that is the dealer? Maybe it is influence from the company but I thought that was great.

I hate carving canyons 1/4 mile at a time.

Agreed...it excels for her application & Mopar should be commended for targeting it's customer base. It's still not for me as I like to turn, but man that is wicked fast if you like the straight lines.

Gonna be stupid money to own one however...adm sucks.

That being said, a drag car that is illegal on the drag strip?
You know it will be at least as compromised as a ZL1 1LE on the road and completely useless on a road course.

If the warranty stays intact even with the added safety equipment though that's pretty impressive. It's significantly easier to add a cage and DS loop then to make a hellcat/GT500/ZL1 run the same time(and add the safety equipment). Wouldn't trade my ZL1 for it but would happily add one to the garage.
Being illegal on the NHRA tracks will only make Dodge respond to a "fully" track model with maybe roll cage, no radio, A/C, fire extinguisher, and such like the GT350R. It will just get lighter and faster.

According to this article, MSRP is $85,000, but with only 3,000 being made for the US, ADM will be significant. Six figures anyone?
The 3,000 probably are already sold out as well.

+1 and they probably didn't want it to compete with Corvette pricing as well.

I wonder if they can. Are there any street legal cars with factory roll cages?

Biggest downfall for sales of this car will be two seater car...they just lost half the marketplace just to save some weight...not a smart move on their part...

Beast of a car but sales will be harder as a two seater ONLY car. At least with the ZL1, Z/28 or Hellcat you have a four seater...

Unless you're very passionate about drag racing.

I would just settle for the 392 charger. I don't see why GM needs to respond to this, it doesn't.
GM shouldn't respond IMO...it is not their core base to me anyway. Let dodge have their place in the spotlight with the 1/4 mile. It's awesome for what it is & does well. So be it.

To me, the angle should be put back into Dodge's lap as to why they cannot build a car in the $60's-$70's that is in line with the ZL1 & GT350R. They seem content to focus on the straight edge, which is OK I guess, but I'm hoping they step it up with a supposed new gen for challenger/charger that should have a whole new chassis. We shall see.
