If you've ever had any triage training you'd get that the paramedics don't "amputate your leg" at the incident site.

Too many false information is given out due to the media. And you'll find more of that on social sites.

Ofcourse not. I know paramedics doesn't do that. I was talking about at the hospital and doctor's having to make those decisions fast before it sets in.

Gangrene takes days to set in, it can't happen over a few hours. The main concern for patients with amputations is bacterial infection.

I'm actually tech support and CS for EOD robots the MA State PD and Boston PD use

I haven't heard a thing, and don't expect to. All guesses at this point except for the details they are learning from the devices themselves. The forensics folks are very good

Was looking at the news on CNN and the reporters was asking Dr. Sanjay Gupta and he was explaining what was actually happening. And what i've said is exactly what they did and were doing with the patients. I know it takes days to set it.

Being from Boston, born and raised, I'm very saddened by the events that took place. I have some good friends who were there, and are fighting their serious injuries as we speak. It angers me so much, that I can't even speak about it without lashing out...so I have to hold my tongue and use my words for good. I pray for all the people and their families that are going through the deaths and injuries right now. And I also pray that the scumbag(s) responsible find their last days alive very soon.

In the end the speculation on "deciding to amputate" is pretty moot.
The doctor's said that the explosion already had done most of the damage and amputation, they simply completed the job because so much muscle and tissue had been destroyed.
It's sad and unreal to think, I was 40 minutes away and easily could have been in the area.
The video on the finish line with audio is rattling, being there I can't begin to imagine what I would have done and have nothing but respect for the people who ran TO the bombs and not away, weather civilians, former military, first responders and even camera people documenting whats happening, even that is a crucial piece.
