Well, it was actually a Holden, so GM North America could have just as easily badged it a Chevrolet once it was stateside instead of a Pontiac and nobody would have known the difference.

So did we ever decide if the R/T manual and R/T automatic are rated the same? I'm pretty sure they are, aren't they?

Dyno's really don't prove anything because they're all different and who knows what the car had done to it. Anyone can say it's stock but it doesn't make it so.

Manual has more power than the auto, just like the Camaro. I think it has to do with how much power/torque the tranny can handle, or perhaps how the exhaust is routed. I don't think it's much of a difference though.

However, on a dyno an automatic will show less HP than the manual due to higher drive train parasitic losses.

Crank HP doesn't mean a whole lot to me anyway. I wanna know what it puts to the ground as that's what you're actually gonna use. However for those interested in figuring crank HP from a dyno it's a pretty simple calculation:

For manual transmissions:
Add 12% to the dyno HP number

For automatic transmissions:
Add 15% to the dyno HP number

For example:
Say a manual tranny car dynos at 350 RWHP
350 x .12 = 42
350 + 42 = 392 (Crank)

This accounts for parasitic loss through the transmission and drive axle. Those are the numbers I personally use, but I've read it's anywhere from 12 - 20% difference depending on the car.

Once I get a few miles on mine I will dyno it bone stock just to get a base number before the mods start. I'll then likely dyno it after each modification to see what is gained. All of it will be detailed on my website at www.hooliganbiketech.net for those that care.

Congrats on the Challenger. I was looking it and sat in a couple of SRT8 and an R/T. As I mentioned before, the R/T Auto got me down when I reved it up. Nothing much going with it. I guess a manual would of been better. I wanted the SRT8, but 10K more is sick. I saw the black in polished rims and my heart skipped a beat. It was like it was calling to me. I almost got the R/T, but I wanted the viper seats, rims, and hood stripes SRT8 has. They told me it might come out later for a road and track package. No luck so far.

I think the price and performance of the camaro are going to keep me going. The beauty of waiting a year has so many pros. More money to spend, bugs will be out, while bugs will be in the convertible LOL, possible discounts, black concept, and compare it to 2011 camaro and see what 2011 mustang brings. I jumped the mustang ship last year.

Sounds like a good plan. Waiting will probably get you a better deal as well.

I would never consider an automatic in a car like this, Camaro, Challenger, or Mustang for that matter. You gotta be one with the car, and a manual transmission adds to that experience.

I've never owned a V8 car before, so maybe I'm just caught off gaurd, but this Challenger feels VERY strong to me. I think it's the torque that's the most surprising. I'm sure the Camaro will be the same way if not even more so with it's lighter weight and 30-50 more ponies.

I'm not sure if it's the gearing in this Challenger, or just the nature of a V8, or the Tremec 6 speed, but gears 1-5 all feel nearly the same. Sometimes I'm not sure if I'm in 3rd or 5th based on the torque. 6th gear feels very different and is obviously an overdrive to achieve that 25mpg.

So far just tooling around town for 70 miles and romping on the loud pedal a few times I'm averaging 19.2mpg so far. Not bad.

Just got my insurance added for this car....

$238/6 mos for 100/300/100 coverage 250 comp and 1000 col ded

For whatever reason it was half what the Camaro was gonna be....wonder why?

I bought a 2009 Challenger srt 6 spped 1 mo ago. It had items that aren't avaible on the Camaro like heated seats and Nav. I wanted a retro car to go with other classic cars ( 69 Camaro RS/Z-28, 1969 ElCamino SS and my 64 Impala SS 409). I tried to tell myself the 2010 Camaro was the ticket but it wasn't. So now someone else will there Camaro at my dealer sooner I was in the #1 slot for a 2010 Camaro SS2. The biggy was I wanted it before cruise season starts. I wasn't sure when my Camaro was going to arrive. I can see and drive my new Challenger today.

Sounds pretty good actually. I was "preliminarily" quoted from GEICO (since the Camaro isn't in their system yet) at 370/6 mo. That's for 300/500 BI, 100 property damage, 250/500 supplementary uninsured, with 250 deductibles and full glass.

Camaro dude. There are heated seats in Camaro 2SS and 2LT. I dont' get why NAV is needed. Its not travel car where I expect to get lost.

Speedy..R/T sounds great. I did not notice the constant feel in the R/T of torgue. My shelby GT was different in that I felt the torgue. I did notice I had to keep it under 3000 RPM to stay good with tank of gas. 275 for tank versus 220 miles when red lining is constantly at the lights.

I am told SRT8 is just performance upgrade mostly. I don't get the 10 plus K upgrade on it. Must be the viper seats. It felt like a glove.

The Shelby is Supercharged no? Completely different experience there.

I have a Supercharged 4Runner. After I bolted the SC on it totally changed the torque characteristics of it, and it's merely a 3.4L V6.

There are several superchargers available for the 5.7L R/T Challenger. They're pretty pricey right now as they just hit the market, but they take the 5.7L to around 470 RWHP with a simple bolt on application. I'm not sure I could really use that much, or even be safe with it from a driving perspective, but it's nice knowing the option is there.

Shelby GT (baby shelby) is different than GT500. Baby shelby only has 319 HP, 8 badges, pipes, hurst shifter, 18" wheels, hood pins, oversize hood scoop, side scoob, and stab bar.
