It is ridiculous that speed limits are pretty much the same now as they were in the 80s when brake and suspension technologies paled in comparison to what we have today.
Like when Montana had the "reasonable and prudent" daytime speed limit, I read an article where a trooper said a Corvette going 90 was fine but a Geo at the same speed wasn't. I wholeheartedly agree with that. The equipment matters.

Dont compare people on disability with people on welfare or unemployment. Apples and oranges.

So in order to really raise our speed limit I think we would first have to invest in highways like theirs, which might actually be cheaper in the long run since they last longer, and accept that we would receive more tickets for certain offenses that we are now used to being able to get away with. And that's all in the name of safety. I'd definitely prefer the trade off of having to mind my p's and q's in exchange for at times being able to travel at a faster speed when the highway is not in the city and is at a low traffic volume.

yes i know there are some people that cheat the system to collect a check, and i understand that, but to openly say its for a lot of people its their own dam fault,is wrong.. I know its easy to say it unless you have had to deal with some of the issues some of those same people that have to go onto welfare have no choice, would you rather they sit outside your house and rob you,or collect a check to feed their kids while they go to school... If you dont like the system either work to help change it or pack your bags and leave across the the river to where there is no welfare system to speak of...While i do agree that the system is broken, unless you know the issues first hand, and you might, and if you did you would be a little more caring towards them... It's those rich lawyers that put up sign's saying they can get you poor people a SSI check every month just come to my office sign the papers i give you see the doctor in my back room, and you will have your check in the next 60 days, but the lawyer also gets to charge them a fat fee for doing so which comes out of the ssi,and the government also has to pick up part of the lawyers fees in court.. those are the people you should be talking trash about...learn what the real problem is,as the ssi system is going to be broke in a few yrs and those of us that are really crippled wont be able to get the help we need because lawyers are using the poor to help make them rich billing the government for millions in legal fees.... I say shoot the lawyers while they drive at high speeds into their million dollar homes paid for by stealing from all of us......... dont blame the poor for all the problems...

Unless some how humans have changed the way they act in the past 30yrs its all about safety and how people react to the road,or if some how the road conditions or certain corners have changed ,as not everyone has the same cars as well...some of those same cars are still on the road, unless you ban every 70's camaro on the road,or every other old car on the road so the only cars on the road are with in a certain safety standard are allowed to continue to be driven on the public roads, your idea holds no water.. what works in one country will not work in another either as people grew up differently learning different rules of the road..here in america we believe we have the right to do what we want,as seen by those living in the city always driving either the speed limit or going slow in the fast lane, then shooting you for flashing your lights at them, while in the country people most people stay out of the fast lanes and move over when flashed when a faster car comes up behind you unless they are from the city... people over sea's learn from the get go to stay out of the fast lane otherwise they end up fined,or get jailed, and fined really hard,as they have no flag to wave and cry things aren't fair !!!!

I guess I am a bit Jaded I spend a lot of time looking at applications from people that work for a year then have a gap of no employment for a few months then work for year or so then gap again back and forth with no steady work record. I have had a lot of bad experiences with unemployment and workman's comp claims from people who you find out did the same thing at there last 2-3-4 jobs. Like most things in live the bad apples make the honest people look bad. |

From the thread title, to the rambling paranoid responses and the attempts at logic, this thread has delivered.

Take for example 285 around Atlanta. A major freeway, three/four lanes, and it was 55 mph for a VERY long time. The thing is you do 55 on it and you will get ran over, YOU will cause more problems then the guy driving 70 (which is what most are doing). The state FINALLY had engineers look at it and now are raising the limit to 65...engineers to tell them what the PEOPLE already told them, it was too slow. So I am all for the OP grousing about getting the ticket. The intent is not, should not, be "do the exact speed limit" it should be ensuring the safety of the driving public. The guy going over the speed limit but with traffic IS NOT A THREAT...the guy blowing past them all and weaving in and out is. Even LEO's recognize that, well the good ones do.

The original discussion was not whether the OP was driving in a reckless manner but as to the discretion of the LEO. Maybe he had other factors in deciding whether or not to pull the OP over i.e. maybe he had tint, maybe his exhaust was loud, maybe the car matched the description of a vehicle utilized in a crime recently, etc. My point is that if you are willing to speed, you should be willing to accept the consequences. Period. Not to get into a p*ssing match with you but as an LEO, and yourself as a former LEO, you should know this.
