I run into this all the time. Think of it as car part for your Camaro. You wouldn't buy cheap parts for it would you? Why buy cheap parts for the biggest investment most people have...their house?? Good quality fixtures will work correctly and last a lifetime. Cheap fixtures (Home Cheapo) are just that....sold on price, not meant to last.

Look, my buddy lived in an apartment building that was built in the 40's. He was up on the 7th floor. If you were sitting on his can an flushed it, you nearly got sucked down. And it was tankless, well right there in his bathroom anyway. Not sure the mechanics of how everything worked back then. Big tank on roof? I don't know, pressure came from somewhere. Downside to this building was that the back half was condemned, that's where the elevator was. The door was actually open and so there was this shaft just exposed, not sure how someone literally didn't die by falling down it. Homeless people lived in the basement, roaches were by the 1000's. But on the third floor you could access the roof to the building next door and so we used it as a patio, but you had to stay to the front half of the building since the back half was caving in and there were holes in the roof. All night bar was two buildings down, mind you small buildings, so like 30 feet. Nice to be able to just stumble up 6 flights of stairs at 6 in the morning without having to drive so you can pass out.

Hands down the American Standard super toilet that can flush a bucket of golf balls. Never plunge a toilet again.

Kohler/American Standard. Those are the two best. End of story.

My advice?
Get something comfortable and sturdy. Then go to a junk yard and get the "ford," "GT," and "mustang" emblems. Use some water proof glue to fix them in place before installing the toilet, and then smile with glee and delight every time you spread your checks and drop a deuce on ford.

Have Kohler and American Standard at work (NFL stadium). Both do their jobs well.

I would get a "blowout" style toilet. They come in tank type styles that look normal (not just those tankless ones you see in commercial installations hangin off the wall)
They of course are loud, but you'll never use a plunger again and you won't be fixing internal parts. I replaced all 18 in our office building and eliminated most of the maintenance and "problems"

As a plumber I had the same issue when I bought my apartment. I went with an American Standard "Cadet 3" elongated. It has good reviews, works well, I have not had any problems with it and I installed it about 2 weeks shy of 3 years ago.
Do NOT buy a low tank Kohler. I believe the name is spelt "Rialto" (re-al-toe) they are quiet in operation, but are terrible with "waste management" lol |
