Which is the best sounding engine out of these?
I4
V6 V8 V10 V12 To me to be honest the V8. Dont get me wrong the v10 and above sound great...but to me the sound is almost too refined...I like the "untamed" sound of the v8. Almost wild, and I love it. How bout you? |

Ive driven just about every engine from every manufacturer, working for a high end track and high end detailing.
V6: Arguably the quickest V6, the GTR, sounded like absolute crap when you opened her up. V10s are just strange sounding, listen to Viper's at the 1/4 mile, its weird. V12: Most of the V12's ive driven and heard had tame exhaust, SL65, S65, Rolls. BUT the ferrari 599 I drove was a moderately loud exhaust, sounded kinda farty, I didnt like it at all. V8: The nicest sounding cars Ive heard/driven were definitely V8s, no question. Not to start anything, but nothing has sounded better than a couple of Cobras ive heard over the years. I would assume V8's have the best tone in my opinion because V12's have smaller pistons, making a higher pitched noise. And I know that the even and balanced? number of cylinders make for a better note when you get into the math and science of the actual sound, 8 breaking down into 4 then 2 makes a better rythym or something over 12 breaking down to 6 then 3. I read something about it a few years ago, and I cant remember exactly why haha. |

IMO the list is incomplete... obviously you don't ride... cause nothing sounds better than my harley's v-twin.

Depends on a lot of factors. But nothing beats a small displacement V10. I mean don't get me wrong...I love the big V8 noise...but you just can't compare them.

The V10s I've heard are were all trucks and were nothing special. A V12 Ferrari sounds pretty amazing at full song, but it's probably more of a novelty because they are rare. I would have to vote V8.
By the way, you left out straight 8. My '48 Roadmaster sounds pretty darn good. |

A V8 with flowmaster 40's has the best sound imo

I ride, and nothing sounds more annoying than an unmuffled Harley Vtwin. Now a Ducati Vtwin sounds sick.
