Good for its class yes.

I'm saying don't buy a full size car unless you absolutely need it

You guys are mis understanding me. I'd totally take back new Impala. Just saying in today's economy most people are looking for gas mileage in the high 30s

The ONLY reason the Impala LTZ is not in our garage right now is because it is $39+K. That is it. The mileage was ok, (same as my Camaro more or less), Interior is awesome, exterior is phenomenal, an outstanding automobile. She loves it more than the Fusion, but the fact is she loves 13K more and the Fusion looks and drives awesome too. But it is an apples to oranges comparison as the Impala is competing with the Taurus and she doesn't care for a Taurus. I still believe we will own an Impala someday soon though.

Hard to cross shop two cars in similar but different classes (Impala vs. Fusion) and one that is a brand spanking new release compared to one the dealer is trying to move off the lot. Of course the later is going to be much cheaper.

I love the new Fusions too, and I'd buy one, but I wouldn't consider it fair comparing it to the new Impala as DaBears did above.

Holy ugly steering wheel batman!!!! The steering wheel in the impala has got to be one of the ugliest steering wheels I have ever seen. Why is so hard for car companies to make a decent looking steering wheel? It's not just the impala, plent of cars have hideous steering wheels

I know it looks hideous but it's not bad in person. It's very comfortable and with the screen and gauges you really don't see it.

That was kind of my point too.

Starting to sound extra "green". What if I simply WANT a large car. Has very little to do with need.

But the only cars tha get high 30s are Cruze/Focus even Fiesta/Sonic. So unless you are going really GREEN and calling up the Fusion Hybrid then the Impala is pretty decent for FE on a Full Size Car..............which would barely be mid-size a few years ago

Truthfully I never noticed it while I was in the car. It seemed to blend into it. It was very functional too. I only noticed the wheel itself in that picture posted earlier, and while I also think it's not as nice as some others, it doesn't detract from what I feel about the Impala. It's a fabulous car.

I have to see it in person and drive it, but from the pictures it looks like it would bug me. My dad has a taurus and its a great car but it also suffers from ugly steering wheel syndrome and pisses me off every time I drive his car haha.

More than just the Altima, Fusion 1.6 Turbo 37 HWY, Accord 36, Camry 36, Sonata/Optima 35, 14 mazda 6 38, 13, just to compare to a truly direct competitor. Avalon V6 32, not to mention the Myriad of compacts and subcompacts that hit high 30s/low 40s eve including Dart, elantra, Forte, Civic, Mazda 3, along with the aformentioned Cruxe and Focus and that list is only going to grow.

LOL all smaller cars than the Impala.....................but I get your point err points.

Agreed, that you can get smaller cars than the Impala with Mid 30s. Altima is the exception. 35 and 36 mpg is no more upper 30s than if you your wife/GF was 36 years old and you went around telling everyone she was in her upper 30s.

But compare the Impala to it's size competition. Maxima (26), Azera (29), Avalon (31), Taurus (29). Non of those are even mid 30s.
