Add a feature, don't charge customers for it. Somehow, I doubt the bean counters will go for this idea.

Hmmm, Love the idea of the diesel, but is it really worth 5k for a merely 4MPG over a Cruze Eco?

There is so much more low-end power in the diesel while maintaining mpg, so I do feel its worth it.
And if i remember the eco's specs correctly, it has a range of about 500 miles? so this will get you 200 more miles on one tank. I like a good turbo diesel (especially once you start tuning one), but I understand not everyone does. I think Chevy has done more than enough to compete with VW though.

200 is a WAY high estimate, if it was a 10 gallon tank, to make it simpler, the difference in a tamk would just be 40 miles, it would take a LONG time to make up the difference that way. ALso, if you give up a few features a Jetta TDI starts around 2k cheaper than the Cruze Diesel.

7 MPG over a comparable Cruze Eco. The diesel model is automatic.

Still it is a 4k difference once you consider the automatic. 2k difference, I can see, but that is a little extreme. Once of the reasons the TDIs from VW are as successful as they are is because there is a pretty huge gap between the gasoline and deisel models in mpg (like 10 plus) and the differential isn't so steep.

Is the fuel tank the same size as the normal Eco? Because if so that's pretty impressive. On my Eco with the A/C running and cruise control set to 73 MPH I got roughly 43MPG which gave me around 500 miles of driving for a total of around 7 hours

Why no stick shift some people still like to row their own gears. I know the Vw they offer a stick. I just like the have the option. 25k would be out of my price range if I was still looking.

As to my knowledge (which is limited so please correct me if I am wrong) they are offering a manual diesel. This tests just prove that the auto diesel can bring in higher numbers than a manual Gas burning Eco.

Edit: thanks FenWickHockey I have been corrected. There is no Manual diesel as of yet.
