You can bet your ass that GM is working hard to figure out a way to get more HP AND better fuel economy out of the ZL1. That GG tax is a tough selling point. Not that it will matter to those who prefer the ZL1 over anything else though. Quote:

![]() I think I've made myself very clear in that I greatly respect both the ZL1 and the GT500 for what they are. Each car has its strengths and anyone can go out there and say, "The ZL1 is the winner because it corners better!" or, "The GT500 is the King because it's faster in the 1/4 and only a little behind the ZL1 in cornering!" With very little investment, you can make either car perform as well as the other. I will say this though. The suspension on the GT500 will be easier to modify for performance on road courses than that of the ZL1. On the GT500, some lowering springs, LCA's and better struts/shocks along with a better set of shoes is going to bring the heat on the ZL1. I don't know what the aftermarket is doing for the ZL1 suspension wise though, so if someone could educate me a bit on that, I'd appreciate it. It's an AWESOME time to be a Muscle Car Enthusiast! I have my reasons for preferring the Mustang, but I can sure respect the ZL1!

You guys got mr and awesome easy handling, ford guys got easy 9's with bolt ons and a 200mph car. The man has passed and brought far more to the automotive world than that tasteless post you just did. And he made good on that claim. The competition needs at least $110k to sell you a 200mph car right now. That's literally twice the price. A sole month of respect is a slap in the face. Did people just start laying into Di Vinci right after his death? Surely but it was also tasteless. Don't make Carrol Shelby out to be as incendiary and brass as al o. They are different league's of car guy. One can walk his talk with the likes of having brought us the gt500, Daytona, cobra roadster, gt40, glhs, series 1, etc etc etc and moved a racing generation forward through his own hard work and merrit, another has .... I'll be nice and just say he's outspoken his product.

No one has to make Shelby out to be anything. He did that, all by hisself...with the help of some extremely talented folks, and Ford's/Chrysler's very deep pockets. Who, besides Ol' Shel, died and annointed YOU the "Rosetta Stone of press releases and other people's comments"?! In Shelby's accomplishments, you forgot some: Shelby Dakotas come to mind...another sorry example of Iacocca/Shelby collusion. Along with the Shelby Charger and Daytona, a clearly blatant abuse of the hallowed Cobra Daytona Coupe and NASCAR-inspired '69 Chargers of the same name. But hey, anything for a few buck$... The Series1? Really?! GT40? Made by Lola... In '66 and '67, Shelby and his very talented staff oversaw the Le Mans victories. Someone had to save Henry the Deuce from himself. Did they kill Ferrari? Only very briefly. Le Mans races, as we speak. Ford? MIA... Last edited by LOWDOWN; 06-16-2012 at 12:56 PM. |

On the topic of the ZL1.
Here is a GTR vs a ZL1. Guy raced two ZL1s. One went 12.9 @ 112 and the other 13.0 @ 110. |

Good sir, we're not most cars of the mid 70's and 80's woefully slow and distastefully loud? The king cobra, Pontiac trans am replete with 179hp and a hood decal? Didn't the camaro feature a dismal 157hp motor? Wasn't the mustang firing on four cylinders? V8 stangs had a beastly 135hp right? I find it odd that you bring up cars that Shelby worked on in this time with bad remarks. The cafe regulated and technologically poor era was actually a time when Shelby had offerings that featured as much as 200hp. Impressive considering the times old chap. Carrol Shelby clearly implied that the speed and power of the 2013 gt500 was no match for the competition an could rival the likes of $150+,000 cars as it is a blue collar earners car and an American dream. He didn't say it'll beat anything on a road course for $55,000, he implied nothing will touch it speed and power wise for $55,000. How you can draw a conclusion to things opposite to what was stated is beyond me. Fords svt techs said they are confident that on any track, same day, the gt500 is faster than the zl1. Confidence and 100% fact I will beat you statements are decidedly different. One approach is respectable, the other is too brash and gaudy. Anyways I digress, ford is no longer competing in le mans... The ford gt currently doesn't compete in American le mans series, all must be a wash...funny, I clearly remember seeing a ford gt racing m3's, 911's, and c6's when I was at the alms event just a year ago here in Utah at Miller Motorsports park. I must have imagined it's melodious v8 screaming out of turn 11 onto the back straight... Also, no one has titled me the Rosetta stone, nor incumburred me with any distasteful and incendiary comments on this site except you. You likened me to a political extremist when I likened poor distasteful actions to poor distasteful actions that the media operates on. Different things my friend, you personally attacked me. Quit that lest you fall privy to the ban stick you so eagerly wave at ford owners. In closing, a memo from the lowly peanut gallery you so eagerly seek to rid this site of through provocation, those of us who own fords. Please seek to post in at least the basis of self respecting rhetoric that doesn't end up painting you as misinformed.
