Only received that in school.

Ninth grade Oklahoma History class taught by coach Harper. "Johnny no talking while I'm talking".... "Johnny no talking while I'm talking".... "Johnny I will see you in the hall"... bent over and grabbed ankles and 3 "licks"...... he was also the wood shop teacher.

I was almost never "drugged" as a kid. My dad let me make my own choices, under a very simple set of rules. Breaking them led to very unforgiving punishment.

I was never sent to my room, never had a "time out", etc.
I got my butt whipped.

I found out by watching my cousin that in our family stealing was punishable by having your favorite possessions given away to complete strangers. A nice bit of "see how it feels?" that worked like magic.

I know what I was like as a kid and I'd be in jail now if not for the firm hand taken to me as a youth.

Always fair, always firm. Those appear to be my father's watch words when raising kids. I'm grateful.

Kids need stability. One of the most important things to do for them is get the rules and punishment laid out (even if only in your head) and STICK TO THEM. Spankings etc aren't really necessary, but can be used to get the kids attention, and then a punishment should follow the spanking. Using spanking or belt whipping etc as a punishment, I've known some kids that will just get used to it and then it's no longer effective.

I had a drug problem also. Especially by the ear, by my mother. I made a promise that I would raise my kids as I was. Learning respect, morals and having common sense. I can honestly say that I'm part of the last generation that is worth a damn. Today's kids are lazy, disrespectful and want everything for nothing. I will not have that from my kids, that I promised.
