A Different Drug Problem

I read this a few years ago....it kinda came to light again with the recent death of Whitney Houston.....I guess I had a drug problem too when I was growing up..........

Different drug problem……………………

Editor’s note:
The following letter has appeared on the internet and was viewed by many readers. Many felt it would be appropriate for the readers of Avoyelles Parish.

The other day, someone at a store in our town read that a Methamphetamine lab had been found in an old farmhouse in the adjoining county and he asked me a rhetorical question, “Why didn’t we have a drug problem when you and I were growing up?”

I replied, I had a drug problem when I was young: I was drug to church on Sunday morning. I was drug to church for weddings and funerals. I was drug to family reunions and community socials no matter the weather.

I was drug by my ears when I was disrespectful to adults. I was also drug to the woodshed when I disobeyed my parents, told a lie, brought home a bad report card, did not speak with respect, spoke ill of the teacher or the preacher, or if I didn’t put forth my best effort in everything that was asked of me.

I was drug to the kitchen sink to have my mouth washed out with soap if I uttered a profanity. I was drug out to pull weeds in mom’s garden and flower beds and ****leburs out of dad’s fields. I was drug to the homes of family, friends and neighbors to help out some poor soul who had no one to mow the yard, repair the clothesline, or chop some firewood, and, if my mother had even known that I took a single dime as a tip for this kindness, she would have drug me back to the woodshed.

Those drugs are still in my veins and they affect my behavior in everything I do, say or think. They are stronger than cocaine, crack, or heroin; and, if today’s children had this kind of drug problem, America would be a better place.

God bless the parents who drugged us.

Just saying.........

Very well said..........

And to point out I have no emotional scaring from the ass whippings I received when I complained about being drugged.

I saw on TV last night that child services went to the home of the man who shot his daughters computer after her disrespectful "letter" on facebook.

Really? Child Services because she let her humming bird butt overload her aligator mouth..I applaud him...bet she doesn't use that laptop anymore....LMAO

She needs a drug problem as well. Especially the one where she is drug to the woodshed.

I had the same drug problem growing up as well. But I have to admit it really didn't change anything. I just learned at an early age not to get cought, because I sure enjoyed parting during the late 60's early 70's ...

+1 times have changed in a bad way. Children seem to be growing up and learning things quicker and not always the good things. Kids are into drugs and sex at very young ages anymore. Scares me to put my daughter in a public school when she is old enough.

Glad my parents introduced me to this drug problem, although mine weren't as strict as OP's, it still gave me an excellent work ethic and behavioral manners. I probably will never say this again but I'm totally going to drug my kids when I eventually have them.

It is amazing at how much the younger generation doesn't understand about hard work....seems they are good at just sticking their hands out.

Good read. Does anyone remember having to go get the yardstick and just wait for your Mother or Father to get to you? Seemed like time stopped didn't it?
