As far as I know, SEALs and Marines don't truly consider themselves Navy. I believe they think the Navy is there to drive them to the places where they kick ass.

This is what a Marine wants you to think, yes.

Technically, though...they are a branch of the U.S. Navy....which galls most Marines, so they purge that thought from what brains they do have

Note: If you ever really want to get your ass kicked, remind a Marine of this fact.

How many SEAL's do you know? I know and work with a lot of them and think you should have facts before posting b.s. and speaking for people and a service you obviously know nothing about.

Exactly. I knew a few Seals when I was in and they were some bad mofos, but they always considered themselves part of the Navy. We always joked about the Navy having to haul around Marines because they weren't smart enough to drive themselves or fire big guns and missles, but it was all in good fun.

And I agree, remind a Marine that they have an emblem (eagle with an anchor rammed up his butt) that says they're part of the Navy and you likely will get your butt kicked. I always looked at it like some friendly sibling rivalry when I was in, but some guys take it a bit too far. But all that aside, I'd do what I could for any other American Fighting Person. And I'd root for the Marines against ANY foreign fighting force any day, any time.

Welcome to civilian life. It will get better...maybe.

The US Marines are in fact, in the Department of the Navy.

The Men's department.

If you know someone that was in the Marines about 30 yrs ago. Ask them this. What does it say on the top of a Marines paycheck? And watch them turn red.

All You have to do is ask the Marine to show you his/her I.D. card. There is an Eagle and above it it says "Department of the Navy." I have always teased Marines that I have known (and also my younger son) how the lesser part of the Navy is doing. The reaponces vary. I even did this to a Sargent Major who was coming onto a local High School looking for warm bodies to fill enlistment quotas, at the time I was working as a Substitute Teacher and by the way I am Retired U.S. Navy.

Calm down bomb guy. No sense in getting yourself worked up.

Steve does make a good point though lol.

You like to live on the edge my friend.

Q: Hey Walt, what you gonna do tonight?
A: Think I'm gonna go downtown and tease some Marines!

I mis-stated earlier about SEALS not being Navy. For some reason, I thought that they were under Marine command, not Naval. And, to the person that asked....of course SEALS are bad-assed MOFO's.

My comments were in Jest, because I grew up near a Naval Air station. I'm as big a supporter of our troops as anyone.

I was sworn into the Navy for 1 hour, but officially I was discharged shortly after swearing in. I was goin in as a Nuke, but I was already pushing the security requirements due to a LOT of tickets when I was younger. They take you to a room after swearing in and ask you if there's anything you need to tell that you haven't told them yet, before shipping you off to boot camp. I let them know about the ticket I had gotten a week before, and they gave me a choice. Go in as normal Navy (not a Nuke), or I could leave the Navy. So I was discharged like I was never even in the Navy.

In retrospect, I regret that...but apparently life had a different path for me that turned out well.

That being said, I also know flipping Marines crap about being in the Navy is a tradition Maybe not a healthy one, but a tradition nonetheless.
