LOL, Done is a relative term. They are putting the trusses on today, shingles on tomorrow and we will side it Saturday.( If it doesn't Rain ) but by tomorrow it will be in the dry.

Once I get it dry I can work on it at my pace and kinda lay it out on the inside like I want. It is 30 feet deep and 42 wide. It has 3 doors 2 - 10' wide by 8' high garage doors and 1- 16' wide and 8' high garage door in the middle.

I pourded the floor 6 inches thick so that I could put a lift in it, I am still trying to decide which kind to get a 4 post or 2 post lift. The walls are 12 feet tall so I should have plenty of room for the lift no matter which type I decide.

I plan on putting some cabinets in it to hold my Adam's detailing items, and my tools. I also am planning on painting the floor with an expoxy paint but I have to wait at least 28 days for the concrete to kinda cure so the paint will adhere.

Once I kinda figure out where everything will go I will wire it, insulate it, sheetrock it, paint it and then I have some things that I am going to be placing on the walls to kinda make it my own.

When Kelley's Uncle passed he was a big racing fan and he had some racing hoods that he had collected over the years. I think 4 or 5, that I am going to clean up an hang on the walls, plus I have some things I want to hang up mostly Chevrolet stuff since I am a Bowtie nut

I will still have to dress up and the final grade work and eventually pour the driveway to the road and as best I can tell it will take about 60 yrds of concrete to finish that, so I still have a couple of months to be really "Finished" but it is coming along quickly and my main goal now is to have a place to put my boat, Dr Jkel and Mr Hide when they come home that I can lock up and not have to worry about or post guards

Weekly Update 2-26-11

Hello All, Yes I know today is Saturday but I got home very late last night from viewing Mr. Hide.
It was a very long day. I went to pick up my boat from service. The trolling motor had to br replaced, transducer ws bad Then they told me all five tires on my trailer were replaced because they were bad they looked like they were dry rotted after a total of 8 months, and of course it wasn't ready when I arrived to pick it up. So to say my afternoon started off great would be putting it lightly.

So I finally get my boat loaded up and start the hour drive to the shop to check on Mr. Hide, my cell battery was quickly losing charge so just another thing but Hey things are looking up cause Mr Hide should have lots done when I get there so all will not be lost.

WELL I walk into the shop and I immediately notice the place is alot cleaner and alot more room. This shop is divided into 3 sections, anyway the more I get in I see my truck and to my surprise it is in pieces

WHAT IN PIECES, doors are off, fenders are off, bed is off in pieces, hood cowls front and rear bumper etc... the only thing on the frame is the cab, inner fenders and hood. Every other piece is on stands on each side of the truck, some look shiny some don't. Now I am totally confused thinking this must be some joke, and no one is in this section of the shop. There are other people there but they will not come into the section where my truck is in. I ask them, in a not so polite way, what is going on and they tell me I will have to see the " Boss"

The owner comes out of the bathroom and looks like he hasn't slept in days. At this point I am 45 hot so before I can get the words out of my mouth he says let me explain.

Evidentially he had 4 people working on this truck trying to make the deadline of Feb 28, basically 2 on the motor and 2 on the rest. The wonderful motor guys somehow forgot to take off their belts and left nice little SCRATCHES in the front fenders, which connect to the doors which connect to the bed etc... so to make a long story short he was going to wet sand down the front fenders and re-shoot them with clear, then re-buff them.

Because of all the BS that I have been through with this truck he wanted the whole truck re-cleared and re-buffed to ensure that it all matches. So I am like yeah right nice story but I do not believe it.

So I spend the better part of an hour going through all the pictures he took before he took it apart, basically all they had left to do was bolt in the seats and install the door panels and it was done besides some clean up. They were waiting on the door panels so the knew exactly where to install the mirrors and the would have access to the inside of the door.

The plan was for them to spend the weekend making sure all the mechanical things were good, no leaks etc getting it tuned and things like that.

Well that has been put on hold. From the best I can tell everyone but 2 people have been banned from that area of the shop. They are spending this weekend re-clearing the rest of what needs to be cleared, while the other one starts putting on what has been cleared and buffed.

I was told last night that he could have it done Monday no matter what but that he was afraid that if he rushed it at this point that once I got it home, washed it that I would quickly bring it back, especially if I got it out on a nice sunny day like today.

So the new plan is for next Friday for him to be where he was supposed to be at this Friday and then he will need a few days to make sure the mechaincal stuff is good.

The saga continues.

I have discovered that shops always take WAY longer than their promised time to finish a project on a car. I think it's because something unexpected almost always comes up during a project.

I guess the good news is that they aren't trying to hide anything from you and do a quick fix hoping you won't notice it. At least it will be done right when is done.

Hang in there. It's going to be so cool when it's finished.

Hi John,
I now have shop and truck envy thanks to you! I enjoyed reading through this thread and I am lusting after Mr. Hyde. I love the color.

Truth be known, back in 1976 I had a work truck of same vintage, that was owned by a homeowners association, that I drove while doing maintenance work for their facility. It was bone stock, had blown valve guides and smoked like a son of a gun. Seeing your truck makes me think of how awesome that old clunker could have been! I LOVE THE RED! It is one of my favorite colors. Good choice and great attention to detail.

As for lifts for your shop...go the 4 post! A buddy of mine put a 4 post in his garage and he loves it. He has two '68 Vettes stored on it. Maybe eventually you will have two Gen 5 Camaros, a his and hers or a stock and built version!

On another note... How much fishing you do? I am an old fisherman from way back. Primarily salt water out here on west coast but the worst day fishing is better than the best day at work, right?

Take care and keep up the great blog. I look forward to seeing Mr Hyde rocking and rolling very very soon.

You are so correct Emma, just frustrating after all this time and MONEY I have spent. The good thing he did was take pictures of it together so he did have proof so I kinda believe him and he did have pictures of the scrathces and there were many of them. Since the front end has ghost flames in it they are worried that they will not be able to fix the scratches without getting into the flames.

If they can fix them then all is good, if they can't they will have to re-assemble the front, re-sand, re-tape the ghost flames, re-shoot the ghost flames, re-clear, re-wet sand etc.... which will cost him A LOT OF MONEY so the owner is as sick as I am at this point. This has turned out to be some exensive belt buckles. I told them next time assemble it naked which kinda broke the tension in the air.

I do give him credit for being honest with me. It is a mistake and they are making it good and really that is all I can ask but it is just so darn aggravating to be so close after so long.

Some of my friend don't really believe I own a truck, LOL they think I steal picture off the internet since it has been so long.

So as they say on Camaro 5

They don't know you very well if they don't believe you.

I remember when I had my supercharger installed, they had my car about a week longer than was originally promised. At the time, it was aggrevating, but it was because they didn't anticipate having to relocate the SC reservoir due to the engine covers I had purchased. Also, they had to get the extra hoses to install the catch can. (The hoses provided with the catch can are for an LS3. An L99 requires different hoses.) All of these things were not anticipated, so it took a little longer than expected to get the parts in to do these things.

But, they did a fantastic job installing the supercharger and my car runs great. That's what is important.

You will have your truck back soon and you'll be so happy with it that you'll forget all about these delays.

Jim,

Thanks for stopping by. My shop is now in the dry, sorta slowed by rain. I had talked with several garage shos and decided on 12 foot walls so I would have enough room for a lift.

Of course a lift is like a car and there are various opinions on that subject. One side says for the money a 2 post is better because you can access the wheels and lift the car higher with less room. A 4 post lift you can store a car under when not in use but you will need other attachments to access the wheels since they uses the wheels to lift the car instead of lift points.

Being 42 foot wide and 30 feet dep I don't think I should have any space issues but as they say it could always be bigger, .

My boat is a Skeeter ZX190 Bass Boat with a Mercury Optimax 175 and will do about 67 pmh on the water. I am a scardie cat on the water so speed is not an issue for me on the water. I have attached a picture of the boat and my truck. They both need to be cleaned so forgive me, Dont mind the concret finisher in the back of my truck, lol

Ok here are a few pics of the garage. Decided I could show you a few of them as well. The car on the trailer is my Sweeties 455 HO 1972 Pontiac Firebird that her Uncle left to her when he passed away.

I still have alot of grade work to do but that is easy work, the rain kinda slowed me down on that but since it is sunny today it should dry out preety quick.
Roofing is going on Tuesday, Vinyl Siding sometime next week. Then I will wire it , insulate it and get ready for sheetrock, paint etc... of course then lanscaping oh goodie landscaping.

Look at that red soil!

Nice shop. I think you have room to put both types of lifts in there.

Alabama red clay at it's finest, packs really well for building but is tough on grass. After I get the final grade and get the concrete poured for the drive I will have to bring in about 8 loads of topsoil so that I can get the grass to grow.

I think I should have enough room for my things, hopefully so. My other garage will hold 3 vehicles but is tough with the boat.
The garage doors are 10 foot wide and 8 foot tall on the side and the middle is 16 wide and 8 foot tall so I should be able to pretty much get anything I want inside.

Ahhh Alabama clay. Great for weeds haha. I feel ya. I'm wanting to get a couple of truck loads of topsoil myself. This clay only soaks up so much rain, then it's a pond for a day or so!

Progress looks great on the shop. Sucks about the truck situation, but at least he didn't try to just buff it out and hand you the keys. When you get it back it'll be 100%.
