Cadillac is on an E-roll...

Cadillac is bucking the trend big time. Overall brand sales are up 18%, putting Cadillac in contention for luxury brand sales leadership for the first time in a long time.
  • 30% of Cadillac sales have been EVs
  • 80% of the EV sales have come from customers previously owning other brands.
  • 10% have come from previous Tesla owners.

EV charging company iONNA is continuing to grow their network through a partnership with Circle K.

Eight OEMs got together a couple years ago to form the iONNA network. BMW, GM, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, Stellantis and Toyota all contributed money and leadership personnel to form iONNA.

With this agreement, iONNA will install DC fast charging stations at Circle K convenience stores. Circle K is the 2nd ranked convenience store chain behind 7-Eleven. This will wind up being similar to Walmart's expansion to add DC fast chargers at a lot of their Walmart and Sam's Club stores. This will allow people to charge while they shop. This will likely be part of the solution supporting people who want to own an EV but don't have a way to charge them at home. Now once a week trips to Walmart or Circle K can turn into charging sessions that can provide enough charge to last most customers / drivers a week.

In addition to their participation in iONNA's network GM also has deals with EVGo to place DC fast chargers at Pilot / Flying J travel centers to support highway travel and ElectrifyAmerica and ElectrifyCanada locations, also to support highway travelers.

Fun fact. When I was Director - Technology Integration I was trying to get GM to implement wireless vehicle charging. That was in 2009 - 10, planning for the 2013 - 15 timeframe. Volt was coming and we were looking for technologies to implement to differentiate it from other competitors. Whole lot of reasons it didn't happen, but it's interesting to see it's back in the discussion.

To be totally honest, having had two Volts and three other EVs since then, I'd probably not opt for it if it were offered today. Especially if it is an extra cost option.
