Rain Tray Mod
Did the ‘14 hood vent diy, a couple years back. Some installed it with the rain tray, others without. I chose to use the tray more for fit and finish, under the hood. Always seemed to me that the tray blocks a lot of the actual venting of hot air, which takes away from its intended purpose.
Searched around for alternatives and ended coming up with my own take on how to make it better but, still keep the tray for fit and finish, as well as keeping rain out of the engine compartment. Basically took the 6 air towers and cut them down by about half. A lot more airflow and still retain the rain blocking capability. Hopefully, the pics do what Im talking about justice. Thoughts?

Guess you missed the reasons I stated for keeping it. Again, lots have done just that (left it off) but, I wanted the fit and finish. Works quite well.

Nice mod. I have the tray out of my Z and I install it for wash sessions. I have wondered what folks could do if they DD and drive in rain country. Looks like you came up with a good compromise!

That looks really good, How much of a pain was it to cut evenly/Cleanly? What did you use?

Took me about a 1/2 hour to cut the sections with a cutoff wheel, followed by cleanup with a file. Not too difficult. Like most things that take a little dexterity, patience is the key. I’ll post pics of the tools I used when I get a chance.

Cuts in plastic are pretty easy to clean up, I usually bring out the box cutter knife to get the burrs and little bits hanging around (there are fancy deburring tools too but I don't have those already laying around the garage), then hit it with 400 grit sandpaper and it almost looks factory... well at least it would if I didn't over cut it with the box knife every time.

The plastic cuts fairly easy Joe. Even a piece of a hacksaw blade would probably do the job.

Heres one more pic showing just how much more open the vent is. Normally, you wouldn’t see any “daylight” before the mod.
