NPP Smashed Pipe question

A local performance shop said they recently replaced the smashed pipe with a round one...said it was some kit a customer brought in. Had to cut out smashed pipe and weld in round one and it did not cause any issues. They did not know if it made any sound difference because customer also added headers.

Has anyone done anything like this? Any difference? Any reason to do this or not? Thinking about going to 1 7/8 headers and leave stock NPP but wondering if I should replace the smashed pipe to get more sound???

Those crushed pipe sections aren't a restriction up to a very high power level, which has been proven over and over again.

The one removal scenario that might help in any way (apart from esthetics of course) is if you get longtube headers and want to install a resonator in place of the crushed pipe sections to quiet the car down at WOT and make cold starts less earth shattering, maybe even take the edge of the rasp off a bit. I kept the stock NPP muffler, too, and I see how someone may want that.

I bought my crimped pipe deletes from Hooker

That's not a bad idea. Any suggestions on what type of resonator to get for both sides?

I was thinking of having the muffler shop cut out that part and replace with new round piping when I have my axle-back installed.

I've been toying with the idea of these puppies, just haven't committed yet because I'm a bit worried they will make the exhaust sound like Borla, which is not my favorite, a bit too deep and muffled...

Looking at the size of that res I truthfully don't think that would fit in that section brother.

Hooker will sell you a set of these prefab'd straight pipes/crimp deletes for like $150

Or just replace the x-pipe with an aftermarket x-pipe that connects to the stock suitcase muffler. They don’t have the crimped sections and you just cut the crimped ends out and attach it to the stock muffler.

Well, I invoked Science to settle this Question for good, and you're right, that darn lower control arm is in the way, leaving only ~7.5 inches while the case of this piece is 9.75 inches long (sigh).

I'll have to find another part then, though it isn't urgent or pressing, I'm mostly fine with the exhaust as-is.

Well it's not just the length alone that would be an issue, the space we have looks awful narrow too and the resonator wouldn't be able to fit due to its height alone. I've been searching for something as well myself. If I find something I'll be sure to let you know. Not a whole lot of options for us here with the setup we have.
