Engine blew up this morning
I got in my 98 Jeep Wrangler this morning and within a mile or two the engine started knocking then BANG a piston broke. Engine is toast, Funny how engines can fail suddenly. I owned this Jeep for 15 years and was well taken care of.

Sorry to hear that brother. I know your pain as my L99 was hydro locked last month and I snapped the #7 connecting rod.
Do some research. I know you are not a fan of the L99, but the Wrangler community has really embraced the L99 to swap into their Jeeps. They have full kits for the swap. Do not ask me why they don't just swap an LS3 in there, this is just how it happens I guess. Edit: I guess it is because a lot of the swaps were done in California. The L99 apparently is considered a Smog ready engine if swapped complete. IDK...

TY really unexpected, I found a used engine . Not sure what to do with it. I can't do this kind of thing anymore so if it doesn't work out that a friend can swap it its sell as is time and go make payments again. Not having car payments for 20 years sure spoils ya.

LOL, its straight 6 Chrysler 4.0 liter 290k miles but was very well cared for. Didn't use oil, had perfect oil pressure and ran like new. Oil was changed every 4-5k with Pennzoil yellow bottle. One of the pistons broke, I've read it happens in these engines quite a bit. It still runs but WOW what a racket inside the engine.

I'd pay to have the engine swapped out for a used, rebuilt or reman'd before I'd go making payments on a brand new vehicle again if it's just your daily driver, but that's just me.

That's my plan but finding a shop anymore is tough. I know it sounds crazy but I called around and most places quoted me 2k to swap the engine. Its like 10bolts and 3hrs work but they turn it into the holy grail.

Sorry to hear but 290K is pretty impressive
and your right it's very hard to find a shop willing to work for a reasonable fee these days.

Nice ZL1, I'd love to have that buggy to pal around in. I called another shop, 2200 just to swap it without fluids etc............. That means @100 an hr 22hr to change a straight 6 in a Jeep Wrangler. I do electronics, guitar amp repairs etc. I guess I have to raise my rates ALOT!
