This is actually fairly well known, especially the fact that before it merged with benz, they had so much money for r&d. As soon as diamler took over they started building s***** cars because they couldn't build better ones than mercedes and put the money into essentially building toys as concept vehicles, I mean honestly the hurricane would have never made it into production and they knew it. What sucks is that they let diamler walk away.

Chrysler's problems have never been a secret. I'm not sure they will survive the next 18 months

Do they even make anything interesting anymore, other than the charger and challenger? And the viper is going away for at least a year.
Honestly, the best thing to do for them to do is to bring the alfas and lancias to the states, restyle them and sell them as dodges. Bring the fiats, restyle them and sell them as chryslers. Leave jeep, the charger, challenger and 300 alone, except for creating new gen models out of these cars. Bring viper back in a year. And bring a ferrari over, and build it into the ME-412 as it was shown at the autoshows. Also, actually put the firepower into production. The company is saved. One last thing, put the dodge demon into production. Replace the liberty and compass with the jeep trailhawk. And replace the current commander and patriot with the original commander concept. Basically jeep line up would be the original commander, trailhawk, new gen. grand cherokee and wrangler The dodge line up would be the new gen. charger, challenger, viper, demon, grand caravan, and lancias/alfas brought over The chrysler line up would be the fiats, town and country, new gen. 300 The ram line up would be the new "magnum" and the rams |

I'm not any more worried about Chrysler now than I was in the 90s. Its always kind of limped along since then. If they keep alive, then congrats. If they don't, I consider it the vengeance for getting rid of the Barracuda.
Don't think Fiat owns Peugeot. Could be mistaken. Renault is allied with Nissan. But they still have the Fiat 500(a huge success in Europe) that I know will be a rebadged Chrysler. The irony of Fiat picking up Chrysler is that I remember not that long ago GM *paid* Fiat so they could break their contract with them b/c they weren't making GM any money. Guess they're doing so much better w/o GM. Lancias will probably do fine as long as they can clarify this isn't the Lancia that made rust buckets and quirky experimental cars. What I'm curious about is if they are going to make a Fiat X 1/9 successor through Chrysler. W/o the MR2, I think the cheap end, mid-engine niche is ripe for the taking. |

As long as Fiat has enough money to keep infusing into Chrysler, they'll be fine. I don't think Fiat was doing badly financially over the past year.
Chrysler really needs to build new and exciting models as well as change that poor quality perception that they have. Well it may be more than a perception, but honestly, everybody I know thinks that Chrysler cars are going to be less reliable than GM and Ford cars.

I completely misunderstood, sorry. Maybe once the US has completely recovered from the recession. As it stands I don't think any brands coming here would stand a chance unless they offer major incentives. Fiat is obviously an exception. And since Fiat won't be competing with itself, maybe Chrysler will get better treatment. Who knows.

Chrysler will be fine. Daimler was the worst thing that ever happened to them PERIOD and it will take time to get over it. Almost every vehicle will be refreshed or new by this time next year. New Charger, 300, Grand Cherokee, a revised Challenger, new interiors and pentastar engines for the minivans, probably most important is the Avenger and Sebring with new sheetmetal, interiors, revised suspensions and Pentastar V6 engines, the Wrangler is getting a new interior, New Grand Cherokee, the PT Cruiser is being replaced by the Fiat 500 in CHrysler dealerships, and everything else is even supposed to be rivised. As for quality, my Jeep has been very good, 40000 miles, only issues were a speaker and a missing center cap on the wheel, both fixed under warranty and this is an 07 so it was a 1st year model.

I seriously think that Chrysler with Fiat is gonna spearhead and own the small car segment. In a couple years.

Public opinion of Chrylser/Dodge is LOW...and quality/satisfaction surveys do nothing to support a positive attitude regarding them, sadly. Quality and dependability ratings for all three brands are among the lowest on the spectrum, their current product is among the least competitive in the entire US car market, and they've now apparently been selling 50% fleet sales (which I didn't know). Heavy reliance on fleet sales is bad, as the article touches on.
Maybe Fiat can introduce some killer little small cars that totally blow away the like of the Fiesta and Cruze...But they would need a miracle to achieve it, and even then...those types of cars are rarely profitable enough to make a difference. ![]() I used to look positively at Chysler. I wanted to when they weren't owned by the Italians, but I don't have much hope for them, anymore.:( |

Really? I thought the Dodge trucks were supposed to be fairly solid? Maybe the quality has started sliding more recently...
