Charley Horse

Anyone else get this much? I woke up this morning with a massive charly horse (or I was woke up by it). That was around 5AM and I am just now getting to where it doesn't hurt to walk.

Haven't had one for while and forgot how bad they hurt. It was slightly amusing though (after the initial hit) to limp around and see the family's faces and how I was moving.

Has never helped. The doc said once that they MAY be connected to my nerve pain problem. I know I have muscle spasms (which is why she has me on muscle relaxers).

Bonnie gets these bad when she doesn't take her vitamins. Some are so bad it's scary. She loses a lot of sweat working out.

Me?

I've heard that when you get one, to flex your foot towards you(the opposite of pointing your foot towards the wall, you basically try to point your toes towards your head, thereby 'flexing your foot')and that can 'undo' the cramp...I've tried it a few times, and for ME, it worked instantly...

You just do it while you are still seated in bed, if it wakes you up at night...just put both legs out straight while you are sitting up, and then just flex the foot of the leg with the charley horse towards you...

I hope this makes sense...maybe if you Google it, it will have a sketch that shows it better than I can say it...

Not sure about the rest of you, but it is a harmless thing to try...

Let me know, guys, if it works for any of my 'forum buddies'...always trying to help...

Potassium deficiency. If you have high blood pressure, it could be a problem with one of your adrenals. Get your Dr. to check your potassium levels and ask about hyperaldosteronism. I had it. It's treatable, and in my case, surgery cured the problem.

Potassium levels were just checked on the 15th and they are normal ( 4.2 - normal is 3.5-5.2 MEQ/L )
Blood pressure is normally good last I checked it was 123/79 unless this rotten nerve pain sets off massively.

My doctor is so tired of not knowing what is causing the everyday pain I am in she is checking just about everything. I had 5 vials of blood drawn on the 15th. I asked the tech if they were leaving any for me.

Not trying to reject any suggestions, just showing what seems to drive my doctor so nuts. I used to get these more often but, some of my meds seemed to have calmed these down. Heck, I used to get muscle spasms so bad in my back and legs, I would completely lift off the bed. Ask Iroc, A couple of times, when I landed on the water bed, I almost threw her out. (Very amusing, in hindsight).
