Do Car manufacturers help fund forum?

I have been curious, do car manufacturers help fund the forums? Not just here, but on any of them?

I don't know for sure, but I doubt it. Now venders may be another story - I would think they pay a little something to "advertise" and some of that $$$ goes towards maintaining the site. But I could be wrong.

General Motors gives me almost a billion a year for running www.duramaxdiesels.com . By almost, I mean just a mear billion dollars shy of that.

Sometimes the mfr will assign a rep to a site, like gm-volt.com, but none of the forums I've seen have been funded by mfr's.

No they do not.

I got the opportunity to tour their media center at the Renaissance Center in Detroit and they do monitor GM related forums including this one, but they do not fund them in any way.

Yes sir,

Like I said, the center in that picture monitors all the sites and have folks assigned to chime in and help folks out. They do run some software that searches for key words to help find issues or threads discussing issues. GM understands how powerful social media really is and they listen.

William is on here and has a back-up that you may also see posting. They are here to help but may not have all the technical expertise that some require. They do have access to get help from the experts thought.

Yes, this is where the funds come from to run a site like this. You'll also find the best place for parts and services Camaro is right here with these vendors.

I think gm does a great job with social media and interacting with its customers. I know it definitely helped me get my 2010 truck (long story in regards to allocations and such).

I know GM runs (or at least used to) own a handful of forums (Chevrolet Voltage, for the Volt comes to mind). But from anything I've heard, sites like that tended to be terrible.

I haven't heard of an OEM funding an otherwise private site, unless it was something along the lines of a regular sponsorship deal but even then I think its pretty rare (even then ... I'm not 100% sure that I've seen that)
