Idiot light/ eco light.

I was driving today and was staring at this upshift light in my car telling me to go to the next gear to get better fuel economy and I was a bit dumbfounded cause I was doing 25mph and already in 4th gear and I knew if I shifted into 5th it would lug the engine and give me worse mileage. So anyone else out there ignore their shift light?

Mine comes on just before redline, not really designed for fuel economy.

my sonic does the same thing. i'll be doing 25 in 3rd gear. it would tell me to shift. so for giggles I shifted to 4th. then it told me to shift into 5th, so I did. That was the last time I listened to my car. lol

Had an RX-7 a few years ago... upon application of the brake, a big red alert would illuminate the gauges, helpfully alerting me to the fact that I was braking. The first ten minutes of driving the thing were irritating, but I quickly learned to ignore bright red flashing alerts on the display.

Sometimes cars are (attempted to be) designed to be smarter than the driver, but it only detracts from the driving experience, the efficiency, and dulls the senses to actual, usable information.
