Porsche Crash on the Tail of the Dragon

Just now got around to posting this. Last Spring, in June, I was able to make my first run on the Tail of the Dragon & Cherohala Skyway. Funny thing, I live just over 100 miles from it, but had never heard of it, until I got the Camaro & joined Camaro5. Had a great time. I plan to go again, as soon as, it warms up.

Anyway, was cruising along North to South, when I rounded a corner into a traffic jam. A Porsche had crashed into the wall in front of a sports photography station, run by KillBoy. 10-12 cars & motorcycles were backed up behind it.

KillBoy was able to take pictures showing a time lapse of the crash.

Be careful out there...

is this a closed loop run, or is he just being a yahoo driving on the wrong side of the road cutting the corner.

The latter. The road is an open US highway, US-129. I'm guessing there was a bit of spirited driving for the benefit of the camera, which given the number of vehicles on the road that day, put a lot of people's lives & rides at risk.

Since I frequently ride the dragon on a bike, this is a perfect example of someone with more money than driving skills. Thankfully it didn't result in anyone getting hurt.

I don't think he had much of either.

I'm a little rusty on my German: Is that a 924, or a 944? Probably both can be had for cheap these days, but back in the day, owners of 924 vs. 944 were about 20 tax brackets apart...

That's what he gets for driving like a jackass. Luckily he didn't hurt or kill anyone… If you can't stay in you're lane, you're going too fast for your skill level. Learn how to drive, or slow the &#*@ down.

Last time my son and I went we saw a mazda RX-7 off the side where it had hit a tree and flipped crushing the passengers side of the roof in. Luckily he was alone and walked away from the accident. I have seen some crazy ass driving up there, cars and Motorcycles.

I can post this cause I own a Porsche.

What is the difference between a porcupine and a Porsche?

The Porsche has the prick on the inside!

Killboy routinely calls out people in public, as do many others, who cross the yellow line at any time up there. I used to frequent it a lot but not as much the last couple of years. I used to go up there in my vette with autox tires on and have a blast. Still stayed on my side though. There are so many people that try to drive beyond theirs or their cars ability it can get pretty dangers as these pics show. Add in a camera shoot that makes people want to show off or a sport bike rider trying to keep up with a corvette on race rubber because he doesn't want to get 'beat' by a car and that's another recipe for disaster. I quit doing that because I didn't want some squid getting plastered to a tree.

That's why I try to only go during off peak periods. Middle of the week or before summer. I have been there on holidays and summer weekends and it's a mess with the show offs and Cops...

This is definitely a road to be respected. Hubby and I went with our friends last summer. The first thing you visit is the gift shop and the "Tree of Shame" which is a large tree filled with wreckage, some from fatalities. Mostly from motorcycles. Also it was said that 18 wheelers were no longer alllowed on this road because some curves are so sharp, his trailer may be in your oncoming lane and you dont see it til its too late. We had a blast but you do have to keep your head on straight.
