the next Toyota Supra

Apparently it is actually happening and it is a joint project with BMW similar to the BRZ/FRS joint venture with Subaru.

Now I am not a big Toyota fan myself, but there is no denying the last generation Supra was one bad ass mother. What interests me most is the partnership with BMW.

That would be very cool. I've always loved the supra and wouldn't mind owning a new one...

That's what I am interested to find out. The partnership with BMW and the direction Nissan went with the GT-R could make a higher price point and supercar targets more likely. On the other hand the Mitsubishi Evo is moving into the higher price point to combat the GT-R, so that could leave a large portion of the import performance market vacant other than the Subaru STI. I'm a bit perplexed about where such a car would fit into the BMW lineup. That makes me lean a little more toward high-end supercar fighter.

Hopefully they keep it simple (no hybrid awd mess like the NSX) and can keep it under $100k

A re-worked GT86/FRS chassis with a low mounted and set back Boxer 6 and a set of VGT turbos's maybe compounded sounds like it would be a hit just as long as it had enough rubber and electronics to keep them on the road.

This seems like a good way to keep costs low as they already have the GT86 Chassis to enlarge and mod, a boxer 4 that already fits so what's two more cylinders and a 2 turbos if you're reworking the chassis and don't have a body yet. Porsche has been doing great things with their turbo boxer 6's for decades now so I feel like it would be right at home in a modified GT-86 platform. Maybe have the electronics only spool the big turbo when the driver requests the additional power because Carlos Lagos was quickly overwhelmed by all the extra power the Crawford BRZ had. He said it was too much.

I highly doubt they'll run an H6. As far as I can tell Subaru is not involved in this model. They have a totally new STI coming next year and this car would probably overlap with that one. That would be awesome though if they ended up with a turbo h6, that would be one mean car especially with the involvement of STI. Apparently the next sti is going to have electronically assisted spooling technology and rumors are it is going to make peak torque at about 2,000rpm on a 2.0l H4 and it is expected to make in the 340hp range. Imagine what could be done with a 3.0l H6!

It would be cool to have the supra back on the market but they are gonna have to do a I6 motor cause isn't that what almost all supra's have been for that past 20 to 30 years? I can see why they went to Bmw if that is true cause most BMW's have I6 engines. But why cant Toyota build the car themselves aren't they the biggest auto make again? Do they not have the talent to build the car which cant be the case cause they did the LFA but at a loss. Ill be impressed if they did a supra with no help from anyone else

Comes down to money and cost...if they source the I6 from BMW for a fraction of the development costs for them to do it. Then I say go for it. Means the car could be more affordable for the consumer. If they did it themselves they would have to go with a V6 instead probably start with a Camry engine and go from there like Nissan did with the GTR.

My guess is $100K quasi-supercar too. That doesn't really add up either, because Lexus already has a coupe prototype with a 450HP V8 called the RC-F which is supposed to be $100K. What does that leave us with?
