2001 1500 Silverado - brake line issue
My brother drives a 2001 Silverado, has about 150,000 miles on it. Has been having some braking related issues, so he took it in this morning to be checked over. They are telling him the brake lines are severely corroded, and that he has about 1-3 months before total failure. They quoted him $1,000 - $2,000 to replace them.
I've done some research, and found this: http://trucks.about.com/b/2011/09/23...-corrosion.htm Looks like this is a common issue, that has been under investigation since 2010, but with no recall to date. So I'm looking for comments, thoughts, suggestions, etc on the issue. Is it worth it to fix? Does the price quoted seem high? Easy enough to do for someone mechanically inclined?

Replaced mine on my 02 Silverado in stainless, pre bent from inline tube for around $250. Perfect fit! Easy job.

My dad has a 97 Silverado and my uncle has a 94. Same exact issue. I wonder when or if GM ever fixed this problem.

I redid the break lines on my 2001 suburban (same system) in my driveway with a floor jack. Took some time, because i made my own lines but cost me under 70$ to do the whole job. Its worth it if you can do it yourself
