Non-smokers

We had our last cigarette last Friday night at around 10PM or so.
There are times where I still want to light up, always after I eat I want to smoke, waking up in the AM and not coughing is a good thing.

We figured that we will save close to $70.00 a week by quitting the shit sticks. That is a tank of gas for one week in the Camaro!!!! over a months time it averages out to a car payment on my wife's car!!!

Has anyone else recently or not so recently quite the habit of smoking?
If you could post your experience that would be great.

Thanks

Tony

I gave up modding. It has been 2 weeks since my last mod. I don't think I can go much longer but I gave it a shot :/.

Congrats though. Those things are nasty. Keep at it. Just wait...in 2 months you are going to walk into a room of smokers. That nasty smell will hit you and you will think "What the **** was I doing?"

I gave them up about 10 years ago after a couple very close friends passed away from cancer.

Haven't had one since, I am proud to say.

Good move, good luck to you!!

Ok, guess I have to trump the person before me. It's been 21 years since I quit smoking cigarettes. It was my 3rd ( and thankfully last) attempt at quitting. I did the hypnosis thing once and it helped for 2 years. When I decided to finally quit I said I was not going to let this little fkr rule my life. No way No how. I overcame all the associations within a months time and like AdamZ said, I walked into a room where people had smoked and it was like I couldn't breath...it was awful. You experience something like that and you don't ever want to go back. Good luck in your endeavor and remember to not let it beat you...You are better than that

Edit: to Angie, if you still have cravings it's because you haven't overcome that association with that craving. Once you do, you will never think twice about having another cigarette. Keep trying and find out what it is and confront it and overcome it, YOU CAN DO EEET.

Gave them up for 5 years. Picked them back up last year. Stress at my job made me do it. Helps me from reaching out and choking the shit out of certain people. I'll be dropping them again soon.

What helped me in the beginning was gum. Used to chew the snot out of it.

How did you quit OP? Just put them down or what? I've tried repeatedly with no luck. The want is there, but the will to do it is lacking. Know what I mean?

Congrats to you and your wife!

They say the physical addiction lasts only 3 days, the rest is all in your head.

Quit in October 1992. Was 37 and had smoked since 16. Over the years, gradually smoked lighter, and lighter cigarettes (nicotine levels), so breaking the nicotine addiction wasn't that bad, but quitting the "habit" was difficult.

Remember, the first year will be tough. There will always be something new to remind you of smoking; holidays, fishing, golfing, you name it, it will take a year to get through the "cycle".

With us (wife quit the day before I did), our lives, friends, and habits changed. All for the better. Good luck to you.

(but fwiw, if I knew I would be dead in six months, I would start smoking right now - loved to smoke, and the odor of a fresh cigarette lighting up still smells good to me)
