Blondie's analysis about half way through is way off. Young buyers care more about image and design than any prior generation. What appeals to them is just different. It will be very interesting to see what the next generation of American performance car holds.

I'm one of these young professionals they're aiming for, and one of the main reasons why I bought my Mustang is because I enjoy the retro feel. For the large part, cars today just don't have the soul they did back in the 60's and early 70's. I don't want a car that looks like a Fusion, I want one that Steve McQueen would be proud to drive.

In a sense car design should go forward especially for the mustang. Dudes have been driving the same car design for almost 10yrs

I love the look. The current car has pretty much run it's course. It will be a ten year old design by the time this new one comes out. If they perform well, I doubt that they will lose existing people. I believe they will gain a whole new crowd of people with the new look regardless.

I think it has ALWAYS been about socialization for the young people. In the 60s you needed cars to socialize. In this decade you need a smart phone. That's all there is to it. Since cars are less important for socialization, therefore kids care less about cars than an iPad.

This whole over-analyzation about kids nowadays favoring design is BS - kids have ALWAYS loved what was considered "cool" for the time. Nothing has changed in that regard.

Agreed - it's amazing that it's even lasted 10 years. The baby boomers sure are a nostalgic bunch!

How did we screw our kids up so bad that they value a phone over a car?

This.

Plus, I don't know anyone in their 20's or 30's who doesn't think the current lineup of muscle cars look badass. Men, women, doesn't matter.

Nothing against the Aston Martin's though, those cars are beautiful.

Here are some renderings. I see the Evos concept and Mustang cues put together.
