Who's the champion? If Bama beats LSU ........

Been talking to clients and hearing local talk radio and talking to a lot of people about the season and the CG and BCS.

I'm absolutely shocked at the mentality of 'college football fan'.

I've heard from a number of people actually asking the question .... "If Alabama beats LSU, should they split the championship"?

Un...... freaking ...... believable.

So I think I might be putting my mental grasp on the train of thought with college over the pros.

Seems to me that college football is more of an "Everyone Get A Trophy" philosophy.

Another reason why I feel the way I do. When Buffalo beat the Cowboys in the regular season and then lost to them in the SuperBowl I guess I should have assumed that the Bills were co-champs?

Am I alone on this?

The objective is to get to the championship game (world series, SB, Stanley cup, etc.......) And then win it. Winner is champ undisputed hands down end of story.

The best team is the one who accomplishes the objective. Period.

I actually wanted this match up again! They are 1 & 2! Everyone thinks the first game sucked because it was a field goal game I guess they expect college foot ball to be a game of madden! High scoring!

I thought the first game was exciting! I like close even games! But that's just me! It's more exciting!

I like compelling matchups. LSU and BAMA are the two best teams and both deserve to be where they are. Uninteresting game to me but they got it right.

My thing is if Bama wins they are the champs. PERIOD. None of this BS that LSU beat them once so it should be shared stuff.

Whoever wins the BCS NC Game is the National Champion, whether they have one loss or none.

Why is that complicated?

LSU 31 Tide 14 = LSU BCSNC
LSU 9 Tide 6 = LSU BCSNC
Tide 9 LSU 6 = LSU BCSNC
Tide 31 LSU 14 = Co-Champs BCSNC

LSU played a tough schedule, I think it would take a Tide blowout just for them just to get "Co-Champ's".

PQ, how in the world did my Horn's score more points on OSU than OU? OU has a good QB!

I believe the Harris and Coaches ballots are 2 thru 25. Number one is inked in, no matter what, with the winner of the NCG.

Almost seems as if OU rolled over for the Big12.

I usually don't participate in sports banter, but I feel compelled to do so here. I don't agree in co-champions. The winner of the BCSNCG is the champion. Here's my plug - There won't be a need to discuss "co-champions" because the end result won't be close. I am stealing this from somewhere, but it takes two "L's" to spell RoLL Tide!

So, LSU played a tougher schedule and stayed #1 from the beginning, plus had to play an extra game (SEC championship game), plus they beat the Tide already.

Tide better beat LSU by 30 point to make up for all that!!

BCS sucks! Need to go to a playoff system. Champion from each divison enters playoff format. they can still have the bowl games and understand that they are big money for the schools. There needs to be a unified champion and not split polls

I agree...playoff should be put in place!!! BCS is all about "Style Points", "Points Scored", and "Schedules" just to get there.......LSU's BCS points achieved should keep the Tide in second place...unless the Tide just blows LSU out of the water!

I agree, but due to how screwed the BCS is I can totally see a split champion if Bama wins. It last happened in 2003 when LSU and USC split.

Quote:
The 2003 NCAA Division I-A football season ended with an abundance of controversy, resulting in a split national championship. This was the first split title since the inception of the BCS, something the BCS intended to eliminate.

At season's end, three major conference teams finished the regular season with one loss, with only two spots available in the BCS National Championship Game. Three non-BCS teams also finished with one loss, TCU, Boise State and Miami (OH), stirring the debate of the BCS being unfair to mid-major teams.

USC had lost a triple overtime thriller at California on September 27, LSU lost at home to Florida on October 11, and Oklahoma, which had been #1 in every BCS rating[1], AP and Coaches' Poll[2] of the season, had been shocked by Kansas State in the Big 12 Championship Game, 35-7 on December 6. Although USC, then 11-1, finished ranked #1 in both the AP and Coaches' Polls, with LSU (12-1) ranked #2 and Oklahoma (12-1) #3, Oklahoma surpassed both USC and LSU on several BCS computer factors. Oklahoma's schedule strength was ranked 11th to LSU's 29th and USC's 37th. Oklahoma's schedule rank was 0.44 to LSU's 1.16 and USC's 1.48. As such, despite the timing of Oklahoma's loss affecting the human voters, the computers kept Oklahoma at #1 in the BCS poll. LSU was ranked #2 by the BCS based on its #2 ranking in the AP Poll, Coaches Poll, 6 of 7 computer rankings (with the remaining one ranking them #1), and strength of schedule calculations. USC's #3 BCS ranking resulted from it being ranked #1 the AP and Coaches Poll, but #3 in 5 of 7 computer rankings (with the 2 remaining computer rankings at #1 and #4) and schedule strength, though separated by only 0.16 points.

LSU defeated Oklahoma in the 2004 Sugar Bowl, securing the BCS National Championship, as the ESPN/USA Today Coaches' Poll is contractually obligated to vote the winner of the BCS National Championship Game #1. Meanwhile, when AP #1 USC beat Michigan in the 2004 Rose Bowl, the AP voters kept USC in the top spot, and USC secured the AP title.
