Just came out of a business update meeting, we will be making the fluidic device to clean the lenses on these.

It will be a quick spurt of windshield washer on the lens to completely wash off any dirt,salt,mud, etc;

Had a slide show of the tests completed here at work, already have GM,Ford, and Toyota on board for these.
So that means were going to have even less aware people to run some pedestrians over.

These goverment mandated 'saftey' features are going to kill alot of people in the end because no one will know how to drive properly without getting your hand held by the nannys. Howabout we put the people who want all these lazy features on the bus.

+1

Great idea! ........and we need to add all the government bureaucrats to it!

........and then find a good place to sink it!

a lot of the cars have the screen display in the rear view mirror. My GF's fusion does.

Cost range is expected to be $180 if a car has a nav screen, $480-800 without. 10 million cars at $250 average= $2.5 billion to save about 100 lives. Washington won't be happy untill they make owning a car impossible for the average person.

After having two cars with a back up camera ,I have mixed feelings. I've hit more things since having the camera than I ever have before. It sort of gives you a false sense of security. It still only works if the camera can see it.

I think they are looking at this with tunnel vision. With a camera, your average driver is going to develop a dependence on the camera, which doesnt capture the full 180 degrees you should be looking at when backing out of a space. Eventually, people are going to stop checking the sides of their car, and ironically, the same amount of people, if not more, are going to get hurt.

What's wrong with using mirrors? Mandatory backup cameras will just give people a false sense of security. If anything, this will increase MSRP's and increase backup collisions.
I'm glad I have my 2011. I don't need my car telling me I'm an idiot and don't know how to drive.
