Talking My Buddy Dumped His Rustang...

My buddy got tired of me giving him s**t about his '08 base model 'stang. Decided to go back to his "MOPAR or no car" motto.

As you can see, my "Deuce" is NOT impressed or one bit intimidated...

He started bragging about how much more horsepower his Challenger SE has over my Deuce and how he can't wait to race me. Not being sure about this, I did some checking.

Here are the results...

2010 Challenger SE
  • Engine size: 3.5 L
  • Cam type: Single overhead cam (SOHC)
  • Cylinders: V6
  • Valves: 24
  • Horsepower: 250 hp @ 6400 rpm
  • Curb Weight: 3719 lbs
2010 Camaro LT/RS
  • Base engine size: 3.6 L
  • Cam type: Double overhead cam (DOHC)
  • Cylinders: V6
  • Valves: 24
  • Horsepower: 312 hp @ 6500 rpm
  • Curb Weight: 3742 lbs
He's in for a rude awakening when we race.

However, it's hard to believe my Deuce is 23 lbs heavier than his "lead sled".

Though it's only an SE, I still like his Challenger. A Challanger is a Challenger no matter how anemic the V-6 engine is.

V6 Chally... UT oh. The V8 is slow enough! Your old Cruze could have taken him! He doesn't have a chance against either of your Camaros!

Don't get me wrong, I do like his Challenger and told him so. Even a Challenger with a V6 is a good looking car.

He got the SE V6 because the SRT/8 with V8 gets hit with the gas guzzler tax and it was almost $50K.

This one was a 2010 base model on closeout and he got it for $23K. It's only options are the red jewel paint and 18" aluminum rims with touring tires.

Definitely can tell the difference between my RS V6 with sport suspension and his touring suspension. Carving curves creates some body roll on his "lead sled".

I love Challengers. They are great cruisers. Much better every day car than a camaro but lacking in performance for the money. They make up for it in ride and class.

I wonder where he got 325? The Dodge website says the v-6 makes 305 hp. I guess he'll find out soon enough, lol.

They do make a nice pair together. I test drove a Challenger & it was nice but not as nice as my Camaro.

Your friend is a lucky guy to own such a nice car and get a great deal in it. A bit misguided, but lucky none the less.

How did he get that 325 number?

The 2010 V6 was the 3.5L with 250/250.

Its not even close to fair race.

Also, no R/T should have had a gas guzzler tax and wouldnt even be close to 50K. You sure he wasnt looking at a SRT8? A heavily loaded and dealer markup'ed SRT8 can hit 50K, and it does have a GG tax.

yeah, a v6 challenger is for somebody who has no interest in performance....it's just too heavy a car to be pushed for a 250 or 305 hp engine that makes low torque. looks ok, but got nothing to back it up. A RT would be the least "acceptable" engine, and without the track package, the regular seats in the RT were kinda mushy and didn't hug at all. Too bad he didn't do like scrappy said, pay the extra 4K and get a used rt atleast.
