2011 North American Car, Truck of the Year Nominees...
2011 Car of the Year finalists:

Chevrolet Volt
Nissan Leaf
Hyundai Sonata

2011 Truck of the Year finalists:

Jeep Grand Cherokee
Ford Explorer
Dodge Durango


The criteria used to judge the winners include innovation,
design, safety, handling, driver satisfaction and
value for the dollar. The finalists were unveiled today
at a meeting of the Automotive Press Association in Detroit

The winners will be announced Jan. 10,
the opening day for media previews
at the Detroit auto show.

Volt and Durango.

Though the Jeep may end up winning due to the new technologies designed for road and off road driving. Explorer is just a glorified Flex with a lift and dial a rock AWD.

I've seen the new explorer yet but the new jeep is by far the best suv on the planet. This thing is nothing short of awesome. You get a 80 or 90 thousand dollar suv in a $40,000 wrapper. Big improvement over the last model. (I only spent time in a fully loaded overland so this is what I base my opinion on.)

Motor Trend Car of the Year is different from North American Car of the Year. One is from Motor Trend, while NACOTY and NATOTY are determined by a collection of 50 automotive journalists from a range of media outlets.

I believe what he was referring to was the many post bashing motortrend for not liking GM cars because they gave some bad reviews of some models or appear to show favoritism to the mustang.

I don't really know how that pertains to this thread though. If I'm wrong then forget what I said.

Because to the consumer/media base they didn't "change it enough" or "introduce radical design changes and technologies"..

Like a Warp Drive they put on the Exploder or a Mr. Fusion like they put on the Leaf.

Volt will win hands down, but the press was good to Ford last year so they will share the love and go with the Jeep.
