Boss 302 Laguna Seca - Dealer Craziness

So I went to a local Ford dealer to try to put a deposit down and order a 2012 Boss 302 LG. Mind you, this particular dealer loves the mark up game and I fully expected and was prepared to pay a mark up...BUT NOT A $50k mark up!!!!! They had a KR sit in their showroom for 2 years before they took their $40k mark up down to $10k before it sold. Dealer says the Boss 302 LG is limited production and they only expect to get a allocation (believable). I guess I will have to call around a bit and see who wants to be a lot more realistic.

Im from SoCal, fully aware and know mark-ups, paid mark up prices on 4 of the last cars I bought in past few years, including the Camaro but no way in hell I will play over 100% price mark up for a new Mustang unless old Carrol comes with it. This is the first dealer I visited.

I am not surprised. There are supposed to be what? 20 of them maybe?

These guys clearly like to be patient. I would hate to see the reg GT500 markup.

Wow. I thought the 20k markup on Challengers around here was a lot!

I would check the mustang forums. Like here, there are supporting dealerships that give big deals to member. IIRC, someone ordered one for $5k over sticker. . . I heard about it on nasioc. I'll look around for the thread and try to get the name of the dealer for you.

50K is normal for a Ford "special limited edition" markup and the whole mustang thing is waaaaaaaaay over blown IMHO. I love tearing them up with my lowly 99 Camaro SS. I watch the auctions all the time and its a limited few that get to be starkist, most certainly though you cant drive them and appreciate any mileage if your looking at an investment.
If all you want to do is have one then wait til the rush is over and the markup will come down. I forget what the first person to get a Challenger paid but it was retarded money... Unless of course all your looking for is the status then all the power to ya

Hey, that sounds familiar..

Do they put them in plastic bubbles with elevator music and soothing lights to make sure they aren't too frightened over there too?

I checked with my Dealer and they will have a mark up as well. He told me to check in areas that the economy hit harder than the DC Area, So I called Sawgrass Ford in Sunrise Florida Where I bought my 2005 GT and they will not have a markup. So when I am on vacation this spring I will pop in.

when the new GT first came out I test drove one and saw that even the base models had a 5k mark up, and the optioned out ones had a 10k mark up, and they wanted 50k for one with the california special package LOL.

first thing I said to the salesman 'uh, if I end up liking one of these cars, I'm not paying a penny over invoice, am I wasting my time?', and he responded saying it's his job to make sure I like the car and to not worry about the listed prices.

wasn't sold on the car, but still wanted to play with theoretical numbers so I had something to compare to. they tried to play the 'we give you stupid amounts for your trade in!' game and leave the markup on the mustang.. I just walked out immediately after they wouldn't answer me straight.

I know, markup is actually justified on a limited production car that there is a lot of demand for, but for the basic GT's? they are on crack ..

didn't experience anything like that from the Chevy dealers.

I bet someone pays it though. The net profit here could buy the dealer a GT500!

If your honestly serious about buying a Boss302 then join a Mustang forum and find a dealer that had an allocation for one at msrp just like most of us GT500 guy's do. There's a bunch of dealer's registered at teamshelby.com that simply don't do ADM. I got my 2011 PP for msrp back in February before production even started and before any reviews.
