To all the Colorado/Canyon haters...
I was going to post this in the other thread but decided to be a good little poster and not get more off topic...
I drive an '06 Canyon with the I5 and don't think it's weak at all. the I5 has more HP than the old v6 did in the S10. I don't tow with my truck so I can't comment on that but it's plenty quick for my taste. I did drive a loaner 4cyl and that thing sucked. So maybe that's what you guys are referring to? I like my truck... a lot. The only gripe I have (and not so much mine but my friends') is the back seat is really uncomfortable (I have the extended cab, not crew cab). And I really think it's the best looking small truck out there. Oh and mine is an '06 and they increased the output a bit starting with the '07 models. |

In the other thread, I was referring to my father-in-law's new 4 cylinder. That thing sucks. It just has no power and that is even with the manual. Sorry I didn't clarify in the other thread.

Ah yea. He shoulda gotten the 5
. Not long after I bought mine the AC compressor died and they gave me a loaner 4cyl. I was soooooo happy I got the i5 after that.

Well, he is a bit old school and was more than a little reluctant to buy a 5 cyl. I still don't think he is convinced that it is a viable option for him. If they offered the V8 with the manual, he would have it tomorrow.

My H3 has the I5 and I find that for a MUCH larger and heavier vehicle with smaller displacement, it outperforms my old S-10 Blazer (2-door) and gets about the same mileage. The S-10 had the 4.3l motor in it too and it was a basic model with not a lot of options. The H3 has leather, power everything, sunroof, etc. and it's not a "dog" as some reviewers would say. SURE the thing doesn't run with the CTS or something, but for the love of god the thing is a TRUCK. It's got perfectly good acceleration and is miles ahead of most cars from the 80's and 90's. Don't these reviewers remember those days of the 10-second 0-60?
The colorado has some "plasticky" interior pieces and seats, which could be corrected by transplanting the upgraded parts from the H3 bin. The colorado is built like a tank from what I can see. My brother has one and he's splattered 2 deer with it so far. One managed to crack a headlight lens and the other bent his license plate. Try that with a car! I heard somewhere that the GMT-355 pickups were moving quite well during the $4.00 a gallon gas days (before the economy tanked) and contractors were snapping them up because the full-size trucks were seen as gas guzzlers. I also heard that the 3600 from the Camaro was finding it's way into the lineup along with a 6-speed auto. |

with my zq8 colorado with exhaust + tune i can beat on magnum dakota's, v8 f150's and silverados. 50% of that is that it hooks up like a champ with the different tires i put on it.

I could almost agree with the "plasticy" interior part but it's a truck! The interior is tough!
And yea, the whole "wtf is a truck doing with an odd number of cylinders thing" seems to scare people. Everyone I've told that I have a 5 cylinder says "you mean 6" and I have to explain the whole inline thing. I'm betting that salesman aren't nearly good enough at explaining it and people end up getting the 4 (even though it's basically the same engine but missing a cylinder) or running away. And I don't see the problem with not offering a stick in the v8. The only reason you'd want it is for towing and an auto is better to tow with than a stick soo..... Well I guess that some would want to race with it but even still... |

There is such a thing as a plastic interior that looks and feels good and one that looks and feels cheap. The Colorado interior looks cheap. Mr brother even laments that the H3 is so much nicer inside and I still think it's not as good as it could be because it was hampered by being built on the same platform. For example, it has no steering wheel mounted radio controls. Also, the heated seat switches are buried on the side of the seat where nobody can find them unless they know where to "feel" with their hand. |
