Here's the engine bay of that exact evo, real special, huh? ![]() That evo was built for tokyo drift, has basic bolt ons, was converted to rwd and had tons of exterior and interior crap added on to look pretty for the movie. I originally put up two evo's, but the non-ricey evo pic got taken down from photobucket, so I grabbed a quick pic of a cleanly modded car off of my forum for an example. The evo is made to look like a time attack car, but is really a sub 350hp movie prop converted to rwd that would likely get yanked by a stock evo, which is exactly why I used it as an example. |

I'm not sure I have a problem with stickers as long as you actually have the equipment or affiliation to the sticker. Espec, a sponsor type deal.
Stickers of companies that aren't on your car is pretty tacky. And IMO if you don't have a Camaro5 sticker on your car you are rice.

rice - the starchy seeds or grain of an annual marsh grass, Oryza sativa, cultivated in warm climates and used for food.
![]() But, when referring to vehicles, here's my take: An asian-made car that is bone stock = import. An asian-made car that has rediculous appearance mods = rice (riced-out also works) Person who drives said rediculous exterior modded asian-made car = ricer An import that has massive gobs of power does not "negate" the riced-out label if it is also has rediculous exterior mods. You would be wise to respect the vehicle if you know it has massive gobs of power, but that doesn't mean you can't poke fun of the driver's sense of style ![]() That being said, the overwhelming majority of ricers (according to my definition above) have not modded their vehicle's performance significantly. Just throwing on a cold-air intake and a fart can does not constitute "significant." And conversely, drivers who have significantly improved their import's performance through heavy modification typically do not partake in the "ricer" culture. At least, not anymore. The exterior mods done on their performance modded vehicles usually serve an actual purpose and are not just for show. The blue Subbie posted earlier is not rice. And the Red EVO was a movie car from Tokyo Drift created to represent a Japanese car racing culture, so I don't think it qualifies for a "rice" label. The definition of the term "rice" has changed over time. Just because it was created and used in a slightly bigotted way in the 60's and 70's does not mean it continues to carry that connotation today. The definition has changed over time, and people would be wise to recognize and accept this. ![]() Just because a person calls your car rice does not mean they are belittling your asian heritage (if you are, indeed, asian).

Edit: I'll say this before someone gets offended. If you like the riceresc visual modifications on your car that's great, my opinion on it shouldn't matter. I'm not trying to offend, all I'm saying is that it isn't for me.

Its a misconception that a rear wing on a fwd car is useless. When driven aggressively (like on a track) some fwd cars have the tendency to oversteer, which is ultimately cause by not enough rear grip. Adding downforce over the rear gives it more grip & helps to stabilize it. But for this to have a meaningful impact, it would need to be something like two or three hundred pounds of downforce at say 50 mph, and that means that the wing has to be pretty big.

So, IMO ainyone driving any kind of car on city roads or hwy with a wing, I'd consider it not only rice but I'd go further to say it's fried rice.

I would say you are, once again, Spot On! I always felt these are just (creative & possibly racist) terms of who created it, in my opinion. (Personally I hate PC, and remember the phrase "sticks n' stones..." so I'm fine with the terms) When somebody modifies it to put the Folgers can exhaust on it... that's just a fool, no matter what make or model.

The name "Rice Burner" was coined in the 1960's for Honda and Yamaha motor cycles.
When the Japanese cars arrived in the early 70's the name graduated to them. Ricer Burner = Ricer |
