Hey Guys,
I guess you could call me the newbie here. I'm a bowler as well. I use to bowl on the same league as my Dad, but had to quit, after I went to second shift. Him and I still get together once a week to bowl for fun. One week, I'd kick his butt, the next, he would return the favor. My best series was a 793 against my Dad this summer. It was also my first 300 game in that series. It's too bad it wasn't during league play. None of the houses in my area have any leagues for second shifters. I guess I'll have to wait till I get on 1st. My Dad bowls on 5 leagues and 1 traveling league. He's 74 years young! He averages right around 200 give or take 5 or 10 pins. I just hope I can still bowl as well when I'm his age.

Hate when that happens...I'm guessing you didn't cover as many as you would have liked???

My teammate is going through a low-carry phase as well. I've had a case of the "tugs", so splits have usually ended scoring runs lately. Hopefully I won't start stringing them.

Not on that night. And it sounds weird but I shoot them much better on the left lane too. The ball return gets in my way on the right lane and screws up my approach.

All of my dad's trophies were from 1960 - 1971, in Brooklyn leagues. He had several that were 2ft tall or more, and as I said, I'm pretty sure one was for highest avg of 265. Never a pro, but bowled at least 3 times a week.

Shot 644. (249, 219, 176) Not really sure what happened on that last game. I started out that game with 3 perfect pocket 8-pin taps. Stupidly I tried to adjust for it and lost it. We all struggled the last game so its wasnt just me. (We lost the last game to the vacant team. UGH!!)

I hate when that happens. Maybe the 8-pin (or 5-pin) was suddenly placed off-spot??? (I'm assuming you're a righty). Regardless, it always amazes me how sometimes everything goes to shit w/o warning. But then again, sometimes things flip the other way.

Last night was one of those "grinder nights" where I had to fight for every pin - still battling the "pulls" with four splits. I squeaked out a 616 and just nudged my average to 200. More importantly, we won all points for the first time in weeks.

I doubt it was a placement issue because it happened on both lanes. I was just completely dumbfounded. How do you throw 3 pure balls, and leave 8 pins? 9 pins, I understand because that means the ball is driving hard. But 8 pins???? Lol!

Ive had a case of the pulls several times, and still get a couple of them a week. What really helped me out with that was going with a figure 8 gravity swing. Then it forces your arm out to the right making it impossible to pull left. Everything now and then I try and muscle the ball which breaks the figure 8. If I just relax and remember to let the ball do the work, it works 100% of the time.

Yeah, you're probably right. The "stone 8" is known as the only true tap in bowling (for right-handed bowlers anyway), so I was probably just searching for an explanation. Sounds like the lane gods just decided to give you a few

I've experimented with that swing in the past and it can be effective. However, with me bowling just one night per week and not practicing at all, a swing change is tricky. The biggest reason for my pulls is that I have an unfortunate chronic habit of turning the ball over by rotating my forearm. If I do it before fully releasing my thumb, the ball heads left of my target. So I have been trying to focus on keeping my forearm square to my target line and using my wrist like you're suppose to. But every so often my habit rears its ugly head, and lately it has resulted in splits more often than not...

Good luck on a speedy recovery!! I was hit by an uninsured motorist. That was last April, and Im still trying to get my deductible back. She wasnt uninsured per say, she was a restricted driver, which means the cars were insured, but she wasnt allowed to drive them. I called her insurance and they flat out told me NO, they will not cover it, I had to use my own. I gave that insurance lady VERY choice words, and hung up. I dont give a shit about whos driving the car, the car that you insure, HIT ME!

Anway, had a horrible night this week. Shot 485. It just seemed like they threw a bottle of oil with the lid open, and whatever spilled out, was the pattern. I have a relatively high rev rate, (>450) and I was playing straight up 5, and was still having a hard time hitting the head pin. I hate playing that line, because my muscle memory wants to the throw the ball right, instead of straight. I pulled several shots which didnt help any. My dad only had a 516 so it wasnt just me. We lost all 7 points to 4 little old ladies. Talk about a swift kick in the nuts!
