Last June GM received $250M, then last December got another $3B. Public opinion isn't behind another bailout which IMO is why they want to slash operating costs again. The last bailout worked out to $90 per Canadian taxpayer to keep the company operational. http://www.nationalpost.com/todays-p...tml?id=1363173

I think it's unrealistic to expect GM to meet Toyota's standards. Toyota does not have the enormous group of pensioners GM does. I was a little astounded to hear about what GM used to pay for. Remember these were taken out during the last round of negotiations, a paid "spa day", and paying for employee divorces.(as seen on Canada AM Fri. May 8th) I have NO idea what the agreement looks like now and am not out to be anti-union or pro-union, but I hope the union leaders realise that this boils down to job or no job for thousands. Get a deal done and keep making those cars.

Well you were wrong. Both the Feds* and the province* are "loaning" money to GM.

* We the tax payers.

I guess it was 3 billion but that money did not go directly to GM like I said I'm positive on that as far as 250 million don't know , even if it did thats a drop in the bucket.

I just want my car, been waiting a long time, some alot longer than me. Worst case scenario, since GM has all the parts in Oshawa for the cars maybe they will float the bill to GM Canada to finish the ordered cars off and then move it to the States, if it even comes to that. Like I said, I just want the car so I can be out driving it instead of wondering when, if, or who is going to build it.

I'm not sure if some of you realize the scope of the threat here. Liquidating GM Canada means not only will the Camaro be gone, but so will most of their V8 engines, the Impala, the Equinox, at least one transmission plant, I'm sure that I'm missing some. On top of all that, GM Canada spends more on R&D up here than all the other automakers combined.
