I can try...
The focus on the Alpha platform is that it will be the new rear drive platform for GM small and medium size vehicles. Speculation is that use of this platform will allow a significant weight drop from the current models that are using heavier platforms.

Many are hoping that the 6th Gen Camaro will be based on this smaller platform, allowing a much lighter car than what the current Zeta II architecture allows, as it was originally designed as a platform for larger RWD sedans.

Yes, it appears that 2 new Caddys will be based on this platform as well... the new ATS (comparable to BMW's 3-series) and the new CTS, which will ostensibly be a bit larger than the current CTS, allowing it to compete head-to-head with BMW's 5-series. Speculation is that 2 different versions of Alpha will be available - Alpha (ATS) and Alpha Plus (CTS). As a result of the lower weight of these new vehicles, it's conceivable that a 4 cyl. engine of some sort could be the base engine for these cars, with 6 cyl engines and a new Gen V small block V8 with DI, AFM and VVT being offered as well. I would like to think that GM would have to find a way to include a more advanced automatic on these vehicles than what is offered now, which would include 7 or 8 speeds along with a dual clutch setup.
First out of the gate would probably be the ATS sedan for MY '13 followed by a coupe and convertible (which only makes sense if the Camaro will be Alpha-based) with the new CTS showing up sometime after the ATS sedan. I would also expect Cadillac to follow up their success with the V-series by continuing to offer both an ATS-V and CTS-V somewhere along the line.

Best regards,

Elie

You can hear it, but it's not intrusive. There are a couple of baffles in the factory intake that end up doing a pretty good job of muffling the sound - certainly in the cabin. An aftermarket CAI or cutting away the bottom of the airbox apparently amplifies the sound in the cabin noticeably.

Best regards,

Elie
