A little more fuel to the fire. Are all those bells and whistles and materials...and something as subjective as "reputation" worth almost double the price?

I mean I realize that the price of a BMW is inflated because its foreign, but you still pay it regardless. Is it truly worth it? I guess I'm getting older, because lately I ask myself that question alot more than I used too.

Anyone that might know, I have a question: How much does a BMW go for in Germany? Convert to U.S. currency if you are feeling super helpful, but I can do that myself if you don't.

Most of the mystique of the BMW is usually visited upon those who've never ridden in one/driven one or had to fight with the hideously complicated/buggy nav system. The build quality on them are ok, but they are so over-engineered that they're a pain in the ass to work on.

Oh, and don't forget this fact... for the price of a LOADED Camaro or Mustang, you might, MIGHT be able to get into a bottom of the barrel 3 series. Those don't handle anywhere close to the way an M3 handles and don't have near the high-end materials built into their interiors that an M3 does.

As far as comfort, that's highly subjective. Having lived in Germany for a few years, I've driven or ridden in every generation of BMW from the late 80s until the middle of the past decade. My fat ass has been in the interiors of an M5 (2006), M3(2004), 540i(2003ish model), 520i(1989 model), 330ci (2002), etc... and NONE of them worked very well for me (6'2" 250ish lbs). I've also known people who loved them. I owned one (520i bought used) and got rid of it within a few months.

In the end, it boils down to what you want to pay for: Sport Luxury or Sport Muscle. Both are cool cars in their own right, but be realistic.... an M3 BETTER have a nicer interior and better materials/build quality for the price premium you pay.

Just my .02.... YMMV.

But with hp/weight/acceleration/braking/later gs nearly the same I would say that a M3 vs '11 GT on a road course would be a drivers race.

Ford was aiming for the M3 in handling with the '11 GT. So I am sure it is right with the bimmer or just slightly behind.
yes im sure

fancy comfort and all that stuff is cool for bmw's but really if you are into performance mostly why would you pay 60k for something that runs with 30k? IF you are that much into performance and value, of course if money isn't an issue buy the m3 it is a sweet car. I guess I am just about getting more for the money.

The price is all relative I guess. If you make 500k a year, what's 60 for a M3?

I am not a Ford guy at all, but to pick between the 2 I would get the Mustang.

Yes it is. Mustang may be our rival, but it's still American Muscle. I'd take a Mustang over anything Europe can throw at us...
