Pontiac fan here as well...

Gone but not forgotten- I owned a '70 GTO for 12 years and a new '88 GTA back then until I sold it in the late 90s.

Now the 5th Gen Camaro SS certainly rekindles the GM spirit in me.

Are you sure that wasn't you? We all know you hate Firebirds.

Personally, if Pontiac didn't die and they made a T/A to be sold alongside the Camaro, I wouldn't be on this forum right now.

My favorite classics are the late second gen Trans Ams and I actually used to have one... turned out for the worst, so needless to say I was sad to see Pontiac go.

I totally agree, they were cool, fun, and stylish, and it is a shame that they go away when so many other inferior cars are still on the market.

I like the idea of Buick bringing back the Grand National. I'd simply like to see more performance options back on the road from GM. I guess I'm just old fashioned that way.

Remember the Grand National, that car rocked, came out of out nowhere and took off, especially the 86 and 87 model years.

I almost bought the Caddy with the ZLI supercharged engine, but the cost over a Camaro was a whole bunch more and heck, I wanted a mid-life crisis car, to me, Cadillacs are for later in life.
If that's what you think about the Cadillac V series, then I think you missed the point of that whole car. It's not your grandad's caddy. In fact, where have you been the past ten years? GM has revamped Cadillac into a more hip, modern, sportier car. Look at the escalade, then the V series. Those are vehicles that compete with the worlds best offerings and often beat them.

I would love to see Pontiac reincarnated, but as Fbodfather said there is too much competition in the world today, and corporate mismanagement destroyed the Pontiac name in the end. Aztec? Montana? G5????? Ugh.

Scott, even you have to admit those were abysmal, destructive mistakes by GM. Especially the Aztec. Makes the Edsel look like a complete success.

It's unfortunate that GM mismanaged Pontiac. It is also unfortunate that today there are too many car companies in America for Pontiac to be revived and compete profitably. I think GM could now do an excellent job of making Pontiac a division of world class competitive performance cars given the lessens they've learned in the last few years. Keeping the division small, but with well executed and spot on performance and style.

But post bankruptcy there is just not the money or the infrastructure in GM to do it. In 20 years after GM's completely successfully turned itself free of government investment, financially secure and profitable again, and has the liquid cash to expand? Maybe. If the competition has shrunk (i.e. other marks have died).

But I really don't see such a thing happening in the near future.
