depends on your state and even city, the Toledo hub had the worst union deal, no break or "lunch" [ its hard work n you need energy], and you gotta load trucks for about 10 years before you can drive. And when you load trucks its a 5hr min, try n live off 5hrs a day.

Though if you could make it past the 90days, once in the union, long as you showed up on time you were untouchable.

union guys would stomp a test package right in front of a boss for sending it down the wrong shoot on purpose. The had just lost the hickory farm account when I started cause they ate it all but I did get the fun of nightly gumball fights when someone was dumb enough to ship em easy to open.

Was during that Gateway computer rage, I member the union way to load them, kick em off the belt into the belly of the truck. as if you tried to load anything proper you got backed up. Dunno how any of them things worked.

RPS/Fedex was a much nicer place, no slave drivers trying to break you in your first 90 days, half the belt speed so you could actually load a package proper, 110% less stress. Same hrs and pay.

If you say so man. But to me if you are 4-5 years out of HS and fail to make close to 40 grand or more you are truly hurting unless you have a spouse chipping in. Problem with a waiter is you probably have your good night where you might pull 15 maybe even 20 bucks an hour but thats only for 4-5 hours. prime time is usually 5pm to close thursday- Saturday. Not a good career. But then again not everybody can make good money or be rich either I guess.

Or do the military thing!!! Wish I had!!!!!!!
UPS is not a bad job without school. They do offer some programs to pay for school too. But I was recently checking the job environment and starting pay was only like 12-13 an hour for a drivers assisant.

Isn't the OP 19? I said go to college. 4-5 years out of high school he should have a degree and have no problem finding a great career. What he should be looking for now is a job with flexible hours and solid money for a teenager so he can get through college. Not going to college is dumb in this day and age unless you go military. 9/10 of my high school friends that didn't go to college or dropped out (not many) are working dead-end crappy jobs with low pay, while all my friends that are just graduating from good schools are being dropped into jobs that start at 40-50k and have the potential for way more. Sure, you can succeed without a degree, but it's a hell of a lot harder and the bottom line is that unless you own your own business, there is always going to be someone with a degree telling you what to do. GO TO SCHOOL OP. You'll have tons of fun and have a huge leg up on everyone else.

There's not an easy answer to this question but here's my two cents.. go to college or go to boot camp. depending on your families income you may need to get subsidized loans from salliemae or other financial institutions. depending on your grades in highschool or if you don't want to take the s.a.t's, start out at a community college and then transfer to a university after you get your associate's degree (2 years) get a work-study job on campus somewhere cool like a radio station, gym, or lounge area. the pay will be enough to get you by until you graduate. many people say that a college degree is like a high school diploma in this day and age so what does that make a highschool diploma actually value? a middle school diploma?
you could always learn a trade; be a mechanic or something by taking a 9-12 month certificate program. if your interested in sales work at the mall in retail at a store that has commission, or just go to college and study business so one day u can work with the big boys. If your parents aren't willing to help you out with a convertible they would probably rather put that money into an education. also you can try and be a rockstar or a rapper, and then maybe you can buy a few camaros
