I wonder how much weight they can save in the R/T without that slushbox.

Thanks for the review, Congoman. What's really sad is that I believe 100% of what your saying (I had hoped the car would be better). Usually I'll take everything with some salt before I do it, but you seem......dissapointed. If you were jumping up and down, cursing Dodge, and praising our luck or something; I'd have skipped the thread.
![]() I always kinda figured the Challenger would be what you describe. So I can't say I'm surprised. I'm sure there was some performance tweaking done by the SRT people; but it seems like Dodge put very little effort into the vehicle. So what we're left with is 4100 lbs, a mediocre interior, and a big engine. I guess one out of three ain't bad...... ![]() Thanks again, Congoman!! Now, on to Camaro! |

the main problem with the challenger was never its weight even in the 70s it was a pig....it just had a big motor to make up for it... the problem this time around is the crappy slushbox they got out of merging with mercedes...its the same auto used in the baby e-class. if you guys dont think that 4.7 and 13 flat in the quarter isnt good for a 4100lb pig with a crap slushbox...then you have your bar set wayyy high for the maro...which is good and bad. stock for stock these cars will be even with the maro edging out cuz of weight. the problem is the ls engines have always been mod friendly....freeakin hemis havent well theyre just startin to come out eith stuff since it was re-introduced in 05

Is it bad that the Challenger is damn near as big, if not bigger, than my parents '99 Envoy, and gets the same gas milege???
1999 GMC Envoy - (L)183.8 in. (W)67.8 in. (H)64.4 in. 4049 lbs, 18.0 mpg V6 190 hp 2009 Dodge Challenger SRT8 - (L)197.7 in. (W)57.0 in. (H)75.7 in. 4140 lbs, 18.0 mpg V8 425 hp(ok... so there's a huge hp difference, the rest of the stats is what is interesting) The Challenger weighs more than a friggen small SUV.... THAT IS F***ED UP!!! That thing need one HELL of a diet!!! Yall aint lyin'... this thing IS a boat. I really dont think we have to worry about the Chally as competition.... it is WAAAAAAAY too fat!!!

I wonder what the R/T weighs. That and the SE will be Camaro's REAL competition.

If the Camaro didn't live up to expectations, the Charger was one of my other considerations. This thread removes both the Challenger and the Charger from the list.
