The trick for me was to just buy it. She wasn't happy but oh well, I told her she doesn't pay the bill on my prior or current vehicle so she has no say. Ended that discussion right quick. HUH? I've had people say this to me (I'm 50). It makes ZERO SENSE at all. I have had fast cars since I was a teenager. There is nothing "mid life" about it. While others were riding around in their mini van's, I have been through a half dozen Camaro's, a half dozen Corvette's, numerous Firebird's and other mighty motored cars. My Harley Davidson was not a choice to join a biker gang, and I don't go to rock concerts to "relive the glory years." What is wrong with people who just don't get it? Maybe it is something in the water that they drink..?

The only difference between being young and being old was that when I was young... I'd get a fast car and have car payments. Today, I buy it cash and start immediately looking for the next one.

Now I'm not quite 59 yet (48 to be exact) and I didn't buy a red Corvette but I did buy a red Camaro. Does that mean I'm having a mini-midlife crisis? More importantly, does this mean I'll be buying a red Corvette in 10 years?

Huff post?

Yeah. Well. Here's the thing. When I was 17 in '89 I bought a 20 year old muscle car convertible. If I had had the money for a red 20 year old Corvette, you can be damn sure I'd have bought one.

Same here, not stressed about my age or anything else, well, that would contribute to a mid-life crisis. Now, having a 16 year old boy in the house with a red 2014 Camaro 2SS, well, that's a different story.

Absolutely true story. When we went to sign the papers on the 2014 Camaro, my wife was all hyped up and ready to sign while I was definitely hitting the panic button and saying "Whoa! Let's back up a bit here". The finance guy said that he'd been working finance for car lots for over 10 years and had "sold" his fair share of Camaros and Corvettes. He said usually when he was working with a couple, it was the husband who couldn't wait to sign the papers and the wife that was not certain/hesitant. He said that was the first time he'd ever had a couple where the wife was all for it and the husband wasn't sure he wanted to do it.

To be honest, in the space of 14 months we went from no car payments to two fairly hefty ones all the while having one of our boys turn 16 so insurance kicked way the heck up as well.

I see mine as more of a fountain-of-youth car. I never felt younger & more vital as I have driving this car!

I'm way past mid-life, and don't think this is a crisis... I finally got to the point where I could get what I want!

I am very quickly approaching 50, my wife is 40 so no trade in needed. I do want a red Hellcat Challenger bad. I'll be honest I do think I have a mid-life crisis thing going on though, I just can't believe I am almost 50 WTH, where did all those years go.
