You would own a Volt for 15 years before you would be money ahead of a Cruze. If I had $45k to spend on a new car, it wouldn't be a Volt. |

The car is impressive. I have driven it about 300 miles so far and charged it at night. I am averaging 52 mpg. It goes 30 miles on the batteries, I live in the mountains and it is cold here and I am running the heat on high and the heated seated and most of my driving has been at night with the lights on. I live out in the country and I am near an interstate. The interstate is 2 miles from home so I always take it. running 75 mph eats the batteries up faster. I think if i kept it below 50 I would have more range. The gas engine is quite and its performance is comparable to other small cars. I have a Fusion company co which spends its entire life shifting gears so it is nice to drive something that is not always searching for the correct gear.
I think for someone who drives 30 miles a day it would be great. It just does not meet my driving style. It is 10x better looking than a Pirus.

No worries at all about that, read up on it. That car sat for 3 weeks before it caught fire. If I have an accident I don't plan on being there for 3 weeks. It took GM months to recreate the fire. It is very unfortunate that the media has created this image for the Volt.

I don't know if anyone's noticed but every car in this segment is expensive as hell. Mitsubishi just launched an EV that literally looks like a glorified golf cart and even that car is ridiculously expensive.
It will take time before the costs start coming down. The best thing GM can do right now is try to spread the overall costs throughout the lineup with the Cadillac ELR and Spark EV. That being said, you do get what you pay for with Volt. If you're in the market for an EV-type vehicle, Volt is undeniably the most practical solution.

There's a couple of axioms I live by.
If you can't score a goal or a home run, it's not a real sport and it's not worth being on my TV. If you can't cam it or put a pair of headers on it (or at least a catback), it's not a real car and not worth being in my garage. The Volt, while a sharp looking vehicle for its class....um....no.
