Supposedly they're having problems with getting the electronics to work.

And of course, weight. Approaching 4k pounds supposedly.
However we are hearing that they're looking for light-weight composite solutions.

Um...No.
That's tough to believe, even for a moment....at least not on the short wheelbase...maybe the CTS version?...which would still be an improvement. |

If memory serves me correctly Alpha is not an "All New" chasis, wasn't it parts of Zeta and Sigma put together. And Alpha was on the drawing boards before bankruptcy, neither Zeta or Sigma are light wieght.

EDIT: And Zeta is lighter than Sigma, parts-for-parts...or so I read. It just wasn't refined enough for Caddy to adopt it. |

Sigma started out as Holden's RWD platform, then Cadillac took it. Holden ended up having to carve out another RWD platform, which ended up as Zeta.

This is what I've been expecting. Once they have to package-protect for a high HP V8 the weight will shoot up. I'll bet an Alpha-based Camaro ends up being maybe 100-200 lbs. lighter than the current one. Certainly not the 3500 lb. car everyone is hoping for.

I can see how a CTS-V with a supercharged V8 would easily come to 4000 lbs. But not an ATS with a 4 pot.

4k lbs? I hope that's an exaggeration on somebody's part. . . Weight is the name of the game now. It has the most significant all around impact. Acceleration, handling, fuel efficiency ~ all benefit from weight reduction in a big way.
