It's not an excuse, it's a mathematical fact. After the Falcons went up 25 points, the clock becomes their friend. They were a 99% favorite to win at this point Running as much time off the clock as possible when you posses the football is always the proper game plan. 40 seconds are run off the clock every time the previous play ends. If your offense keeps the clock rolling, Matt Ryan had four incompletions during the second half. This is 2 minutes and 40 seconds more time for NE. The fumble was also created on a 3rd and 1 yard that Atlanta had. If they run the ball there, even if they don't make it, there is another 40 seconds. New England wouldn't have had the last possession to tie the game. You have to manage the clock when you have a 25 point lead midway through the 3rd quarter of a football game. You accomplish this by running the football, and burning off as many seconds as possible. The Falcons failed to do this by passing the ball instead. When they were on the NE 22 with 4:40 left in the game, there was absolutely no reason to pass the football. You run the ball 3 times, kick a field goal, game over. Shanahan did this same thing in Washington. He doesn't know how to manage a football game. Yes you dance with the girl who brought you, but when she has you as a 99% favorite, her job is done.

During the second half, Ryan had poor clock management. How many times did he snap the ball with 8 or more seconds left on the play clock? Add all that time up. What's that come to? I stand by my premise that execution was to blame, if the plays were successful, i.e. executed successfully, the clock runs regardless of pass or run. How bout the defense makes a play during five consecutive scoring drives? There's your issue, not the OC's play calling, that the offensive players didn't execute on. It's a team game, the team lost, it was a collapse of epic proportions. They all had opportunities to effect the out come, but failed to execute.

Reverse the situation. Can you honestly say Belichick would have thrown the ball with a 25 point lead in the middle of the 3rd quarter? Of course he wouldn't. Atlanta already made the plays they needed, all that was left to do is manage the clock. You do this offensively by running the football. When your 3rd and 1 with a 25 point lead, passing is not an option. When your in position to score a field goal that makes it a 2 score game with 4:40 on the clock, passing is NOT an option. WORST PLAY CALLING EVER Tom Brady did play a phenomenal game, but he had to have the time on the clock in order to do it. Shanahan handed it to him on a silver platter.

No comment on Ryan 'giving' time away by snapping the ball with 10+ seconds on the play clock. Oh, by the way, overtime, 1st and goal from the two, Belichek and Brady THROW the ball on first down, right into the hands of the defender. To bad he didn't execute a catch for an interception in the end zone for a touch back. I may be wrong, but I believe that answers your question.
Not the worst play calling ever, five consecutive drives of the worst play execution ever! |

It always amazes me, that no matter what the outcome, who the winner is, or what the score is....somebody always is looking to give blame over credit, always !!!
Never fails

It's obvious you understand clock management as much as Shanahan does. Or you just refuse to acknowledge the truth. Atlanta also had 4 possessions too. If they run the ball every time, even if they go 3 and out each four times, and manage the clock properly, they still take 10 minutes and 40 seconds off the clock. Had they done this, NE gets 1 less possession in the fourth quarter. One less possession, they can't tie the game. Even worse, with 4:40 to go, first and ten at the NE 22, they put themselves out of field goal range by Shanahan's ridiculous pass play call. They would have been better off to kick the FG on 2nd down then call a passing play. WORST PLAY CALLING EVER

Your missing the entire point I'm trying to make. Atlanta didn't need to do anything else but run the ball after going up 25. All they needed to do was manage the clock. Yes NE played phenomenal at the end, but the opportunity was given to them from Shanahan's horrible play calling.

So lets give credit to the Pat's front line for not allowing the rush and lets give credit to the Pat's receivers for some amazing catches.

Bad play calling because they lost, if they had won ,you'd all be calling it genius.
